Shining some light on Algore's bullshit

Penn & Teller call Bullshit on the Cult of Algore.

Yes, that Algore, who is making money hand over fist selling Eco-indulgences, while he is shoveling coal on the fires of "Global Warming"

Gore devours an average of 17,768 kWh per month…at a cost of $16,533. By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration.

-- Tennessee Center for Policy Research on the massive carbon footprint of the Goracle.

Yes, the same fear mongering Al Gore who showed up to lecture people about "Global Warming" in a convoy consisting of a Cadillac SUV and two Lincoln Town Cars. Each with eight cylinders of carbon producing, gas guzzling, power.

Don't forget that before he started on his "Save the Planet from Global Warming" campaign, he used his family's big oil money to found a "Carbon Offset" company. So he's making money hand over fist by playing on your fears.

Here are 11 "Inconvenient Truths" For Al Gore that he doesn't want to deal with.

HT to Hot Air and NewsBusters.

Don't miss Penn & Teller exposing the Socialist roots of "the Green movement."

The Silky Pony endorsement

One term Senator John Edwards, who couldn't even carry his own state when he was part of the losing Kerry/Edwards ticket in 2004, gave his endorsement to Barak H. Obama.
In a careful calculated move to move Hillary Rodham Clinton's stunning 41 point victory over Obama in West Virginia off the media front page, the former trial lawyer and Gulfstream liberal made his announcement.
Clearly Edwards is trying to salvage his political career by attaching himself to Obama. My bet is that he is bucking for the VP slot.

The buzz is that Edwards will bring "white, working-class voters" to the Obama camp. A demographic Obama has not being doing well with (unlike Monica Lewinski's ex-boyfriend's wife). I'm not buying into that fantasy. Edwards is a creature of the hard far left extremist liberal end of the democrat party, just like Barak Hussein Obama. Getting the same nutroots worked up into a frenzy isn't going to add to the number of votes Obama is going to need in the general election.
Just look back to the primary results from South Carolina: Obama 55%, Clinton 27%, John "Silky Pony" Edwards trailing with a pathetic 18%.
The Kentucky primary is coming up and HRC will probably beat Obama there as well.
Her campaign staff is probably happy with Edwards endorsement pick, since they don't want that silky albatross around their necks.

Private Jets to overwhelm "Global Warming" conference

Haven't these people heard of teleconferencing?

Tempo Interaktif reports that Angkasa Pura - the management of Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport are concerned that the large number of additional private charter flights expected in Bali during the UN Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC) December 3-15, 2007, will exceed the carrying capacity of apron areas. To meet the added demand for aircraft storage officials are allocating "parking space" at other airports in Indonesia.

The Hypocrisy of John Edwards

Via the Hedgehog Report comes the continuing saga of millionaire democrat John Edwards' double standard for the Two Americas:

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a labor group that he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice: their sport utility vehicles.

“I think Americans are actually willing to sacrifice,” Edwards said Tuesday during a forum held by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. “One of the things they should be asked to do is drive more fuel efficient vehicles.”

The former North Carolina senator was asked specifically if he would tell them to give up their SUVs, he said, “Yes.”

Wait, it gets better!
Edwards was asked during his appearance how he explained the contradiction of asking Americans to sacrifice while he’s living in a 28,000-square-foot (2,600-square-meter) mansion.

He said he came from nothing, worked hard all his life, has always supported workers and fought big corporations as a lawyer.

“I have no apologies whatsoever for what I’ve done with my life,” he said to loud cheers

Dave at the Hedgehog reports suggests playing spot the SUVs parked around Edwards’ 28,000-square foot mansion. If you are in hurry, there are at least five.

Mr. Reynolds nails it, "I’ll start acting as if it’s a crisis when the people who are telling me it’s a crisis start acting as if it’s a crisis."

Update: The old photo of the Edwards compound is gone, so I replaced with a new from Innocent Bystanders Blog.

MRS. CARBON SASQUATCH

A fitting name for a Gulfstream Liberal trophy wife who is a massive eco-hypocrite.
Tim Blair points out:

Climate scold Laurie David is living it up with a new guy, enjoying sustainable water-skiing jaunts and the like (hope that boat’s a hybrid!).

A Martha Vineyard resident gives the local view of the worshiper of the Cult of Algore:
Actually, Laurie David has been creating one HUGE carbon footprint here on Martha’s Vineyard for the last 6 years. Her disgusting and ostentatious trophy building has been virtually ceaseless for about 6 years now. The trucks and pollution stop only when Mrs. Carbon Sasquatch is here for her summer vacation, making herself the center of everyone’s attention.

And I’d say the fact that I saw Laurie and her hottie but dumb building contractor, Bart Thorpe, holding hands while walking on a secluded dock to a boat yesterday, has a lot more to do with her marriage breaking up than the scratchy toilet paper she’s forced on her family. I’ve also seen Bart bicycling in front of my house with a little girl he kept calling, Romy. Bart, coincidentally, left his wife recently, too.

I met Laurie David 6 years ago. I didn’t like her then. I don’t like her now. She is the prime example of a spoiled, selfish, rich girl who says, “do what I say, not what I do”. She is a narcissist and a hypocrite to the nth degree.

Nothing like the taste of endangered species

Al Gore and his guests dine on nothing but the finest in endangered species.

ONLY one week after Live Earth, Al Gore's green credentials slipped while hosting his daughter's wedding in Beverly Hills.

Gore and his guests at the weekend ceremony dined on Chilean sea bass - arguably one of the world's most threatened fish species.

Also known as Patagonian toothfish, the species is under pressure from illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing activities in the Southern Ocean, jeopardising the sustainability of remaining stocks.

HT to Mr. Reynolds.

Green Hypocrisy

51 plane flights in six months for an environmental author and lecturer--embarrassing? Yeah, that's one way of putting it. Another would be "I guess my entire career has really just been one long act of satire." It is possible that none of these flights were even slightly superfluous?

"Environmentalists" against clean energy

By way of Mr. Reynolds, comes this Wall Street Journal story on how so-called "environmentalists" fight clean energy:

Al Gore has been hectoring Americans to pare back their lifestyles to fight global warming. But if Mr. Gore wants us to rethink our priorities in the face of this mother of all environmental threats, surely he has convinced his fellow greens to rethink theirs, right?

Wrong. If their opposition to the Klamath hydroelectric dams in the Pacific Northwest is any indication, the greens, it appears, are just as unwilling to sacrifice their pet causes as a Texas rancher is to sacrifice his pickup truck. If anything, the radicalization of the environmental movement is the bigger obstacle to addressing global warming than the allegedly gluttonous American way of life. . . .

These dams provide cheap, renewable energy to 70,000 homes in Oregon and California. Replacing this energy with natural gas -- the cleanest fossil-fuel source -- would still pump 473,000 tons of additional carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year. This is roughly equal to the annual emissions of 102,000 cars.

Given this alternative, one would think that environmentalists would form a human shield around the dams to protect them. Instead, they have been fighting tooth-and-nail to tear them down because the dams stand in the way of migrating salmon. Environmentalists don't even let many states, including California, count hydro as renewable. . . .

Their opposition to nuclear energy is well known. Wind power? Two years ago the Center for Biological Diversity sued California's Altamont Pass Wind Farm for obstructing and shredding migrating birds. ("Cuisinarts of the sky" is what many greens call wind farms.) Solar? Worldwatch Institute's Christopher Flavin has been decidedly lukewarm about solar farms because they involve placing acres of mirrors in pristine desert habitat. The Sierra Club and Wilderness Society once testified before Congress to keep California's Mojave Desert -- one of the prime solar sites in the country -- off limits to all development. Geothermal energy? They are unlikely to get enviro blessings, because some of the best sites are located on protected federal lands.

Carbon credits cause global warming

Not only are they scam of epic proportions, this result was predictable:

One senior figure suggested there may be faults with up to 20% of the carbon credits - known as certified emissions reductions - already sold. Since these are used by European governments and corporations to justify increases in emissions, the effect is that in some cases malpractice at the CDM has added to the net amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.

That's one damn big footprint

Jim Manzi points out the hypocrisy of liberal democrat "activist" Laurie David:

So all-in, her stated lifestyle changes have reduced her carbon footprint by about 10 tons / year.

A lot is often made of the fact that she “sometimes” flies in private jets. According to TerraPass, a Gulfstream G4 generates 8,785 Lbs of carbon per flight hour. Let’s assume Laurie David took one roundtrip flight last year between LA and NY. Assume 10 hours of flying time = 87,850 Lbs = 44 tons.

So, so far she’s in the hole by about 34 tons if you assume one r/t private flight.

But hey, she’s started to cut way down on toilet paper.

The attack of the Gulfstream Liberals

By way of Ed Driscoll and Libertas, comes the story of how "Gulfstream Liberals" have one set of rules and another for the "little people" (also know as the Breck Boy's "Other America").
Case in point, Hollywood Trophy Wife Laurie David:

Even worse is David's chic but hypocritical environmentalism at her summer home in Martha's Vineyard. She was issued a "notice of apparent violations" for building a 26-foot-long barbecue station, stone-and-concrete bonfire pit, and outdoor theater on an environmentally sensitive patch of their 14-acre North Road property without the proper permits. They were also cited for tearing up protected vegetation to make way for a lush, sodded lawn, among other crimes against nature.

The commission has since ordered her to remove the offending structures and restore the area to its previous state. All these violations were allegedly done to prepare for a political fundraiser hosted by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (another faux Green). Alas, there's no such thing as cheap environmentalism on the Vineyard.

Laurie David has been labeled a "Gulfstream liberal" by Eric Alterman, himself a proud member of the Left and a regular columnist for the Nation. He recognizes that Ms. David's brand of environmentalism is nothing more than a facade, a distraction from the financially secure yet intellectually boring life of the fabulously wealthy. But this hobby has dire consequences for the rest of us. By transforming her politics into a religion, and by demonizing all who question her positions, including the author Michael Crichton, who actually is a Harvard trained scientist and physician, Laurie David makes the environmental movement seem bizarre and more than a bit ridiculous.

Update: Ace jumps in with both feet:
...this is the moral sin form of hypocrisy, advocating a standard and seeking to impose it on others -- against their will -- when one flagrantly ignores that standard oneself, without even making a pretense of attempting to comply with it.
...
Fact: Laurie David could easily reduce her own "carbon footprint" more than anyone but the top 10,000 richest people on earth simply by scaling back her lavish "lifestyle choices." She could do far more to reduce "greenhouse warming" by merely living as a member of the lower upper class rather than the upper upper class.

Fact: Laurie David refuses, outright, to do so.

Fact: And yet Laurie David demands all of us reduce our standards of living by a few rungs down the class ladder.

If Laurie David cannot even manage to reduce her consumption levels from "stinking rich" to merely "filthy rich," how exactly can this harpy demand that the middle class begin living like the working poor, and the working poor like the destitute?

Follow the Money!

Keep in mind that the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is a political body first and foremost.
Doug Ross has a good round up of key data on them, including their principle driving goal, scamming money.

Recall that the IPCC is "a political body and not a scientific panel." It has commissioned billions of dollars worth of research by thousands of scientists. In fact, a great many scientific livelihoods rest upon the promotion of the IPCC's curriculum.

But that's only the beginning of the story.

The Carbon-Offset Market: "Fraudulent" and "Fictitious"

A set of meetings in March ("The Vienna Energy Efficiency and Climate Meetings" - March 19-22, 2007) offers another clue. Much of the discussion related to the growth of the carbon offset market. Panelists represented a variety of companies set to profit from "carbon offseting," including the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), Point Carbon, EDF Trading, Capital Carbon Markets, and Natsource.

Carbon offsets are a currency that supposedly allow organizations and individuals to "make up" (offset) their carbon-dioxide emissions.

What Al Gore and the rest of the IPCC bureaucrats won't tell you is that wanton profiteering appears to be at the very heart of "carbon offsets." Put simply, a wide range of respected scientists, environmentalists, researchers, agriculturalists, and activists believe that carbon offsets are a "scam", "fantasy", "fiction", "nonsense", "fraudulent" and worse.

In a 2001 report, a UK-based environmentalist group called The Corner House labeled the carbon-offseting scheme a "fantasy." And even earlier, in May of 2000, a presentation at the Agrarian Studies 2000 Conference at Yale University denounced the carbon offset market in extremely stark terms:
...This [carbon-offset] market is being put together not so much by states as by a burgeoning international web of technocrats, multilateral agencies, corporate alliances, brokers, lobbyists, consultants, financiers, think tanks, lawyers, forestry companies and non-government organizations...

...the [biological climate-change equivalents, or carbon sequestration credits] commodity to be traded in this new market is fictitious...

In fact, what did IPCC officials do around the time they were finalizing their reports? They formed businesses to take financial advantage of their 'findings'. Among the IPCC panel members set to benefit from earlier IPCC reports on warming were Richard Tipper, Mark Trexler, Pedro Moura-Costa, Careth Phips, Sandra Brown, and Peter Hill. Tipper, for example, formed a consulting company just months after being appointed to one of the UN's climate panels.

The World Rainforest Movement investigated these bizarre financial ties and concluded that the IPCC report "must now be shelved due to their clear conflict of interest and a new report instigated which will be free of the taint of intellectual corruption."

And solar energy portal Ecotopia reports that members of the IPCC "...had vested interests in reaching unrealistically and unjustifiably optimistic conclusions about the possibility of compensating for emissions with trees... [and] should have been automatically disqualified from serving on an intergovernmental panel charged with investigating impartially the feasibility and benefits of such... projects."

In other words, IPCC members were poised to profit from carbon-profiteering from the very outset of their reporting.

Speaking of Kennedys and energy...

Michael Stubblefield, , of Oxnard CA, is the longtime air quality chairman of the Los Padres Chapter of the Sierra Club, has an op-ed on RFJ, Jr. and his "inconsistent views" on energy and pollution:

For an "environmentalist," RFK Jr. has some inconsistent views on how America should respond to the imminent threat of global warming that, according to the recent United Nations report, is both real and far worse than anyone realized.

While RFK Jr. is extolling the virtues of LNG as a "bridge" fuel out here on the West Coast, he's simultaneously spearheading the opposition to a carbon-free wind farm proposed by Cape Wind Associates LLC on the East Coast, even in the face of virtually categorical endorsement by most environmental organizations, including the Sierra Club's Massachusetts Chapter.

Cape Wind wants to build America's first offshore wind farm at Horseshoe Shoal, a shallow part of Nantucket Sound. On a really windy day, Cape Wind estimates that its project will produce up to 468 megawatts of electricity (the maximum expected peak demand is 454 megawatts), with absolutely zero emissions. On a typically breezy day, the project will produce about 170 megawatts, which is 75 percent of the 230 megawatt demand of Cape Cod and the islands of Martha's Vineyard. Does Nantucket Sound really need this energy?

The New England Independent System Operator says that it needed it by 2006! But RFK Jr. and his millionaire clientele who have summer homes in the area have fought Cape Wind for the last six years and it's still dead in the water.

"I don't support marriage among gays. I've said that many times." -- Senator John Kerry (democrat, Massachusetts) on Fox News Sunday, 1/25/04.
