Pork or "Stimulus"? You Decide!

By way of RightWing Sparkle is some interesting details of the democrats so-called "stimulus" plan by Sen. John Cornyn.

Fast Facts about the Democrats’ economic rescue plan:

• The plan establishes at least 32 new government programs at a cost of over $136 billion. That means more than a third of this plan’s spending provisions are dedicated to creating new government programs.

• Even though the legislation contains at least 152 separate spending proposals, the authors of the plan can only say that 34 have any chance at keeping or growing jobs.

• The Congressional Budget Office has issued a report showing that much of the stimulus spending would not occur quickly and therefore won’t help the economy now.

• Although the proposal has been billed as a transportation and infrastructure investment package, in actuality only $30 billion of the bill – or three percent – is for road and highway spending.

• Examples of pet projects Democrats wanted included in the rescue plan:

$600 million for new cars for the federal government.
$335 million for STD prevention
$50 million in funding for the National Endowment of the Arts.
$44 million for repairs to U.S. Department of Agriculture headquarters.
$200 million for the National Mall, including $21 million for sod.
$4 billion in assistance for "nonprofit entities or consortia of nonprofit entities” including ACORN, which is currently under criminal investigation.

This is clearly more about pork barrel spending and political payback to democrat supporters than is about "stimulating" the US economy. At least know we know what the democrats priorities are.

More details on the dem's pork "stimulus" bill

Ben Stein points out a not terribly surprising (to those that pay attention) fact about the 8% of the democrats Trillion Dollar so-called "stimulus" plan that is supposed to get spent in 2009.

Close to half goes to entities that sponsor or employ or both members of the Service Employees International Union, federal, state, and municipal employee unions, or other Democrat-controlled unions.

Mr. Stein then notes how that money could be spent more effectively:
For the amount spent we could have given every unemployed person in the United States roughly $75,000.
We could give every person who had lost a job and is now passing through long-term unemployment of six months or longer roughly $300,000.

So, this so-called "stimulus" plan is more concerned with political payback to the democrats supporters than it is with actually helping the US economy.

Color me not surprised.

Bye Bye Blago

The Illinois legislature impeached their Governor, Rod Blagojevich. today.

So Illinois needs a new Governor.

Just what did Blagojevich do? He wasn't convicted of any crime.
Hell, he wasn't even charged with any crime. The federal prosecutor held a press conference. Period. No charges were ever filed.

Was Blagojevich trying to sell the vacated Senate seat? IMHO, ya, he most likely was.
That and $5 will get you an over roasted latte at Starbucks, but it won't hold up in court of law.

The real crime Blagojevich committed was getting caught, which is inexcusable in the corrupt democrat Chicago political machine. So the same corrupt democrat Chicago political machine used the state legislature to remove him from office.

Will Fitzgerald ever file charges? I wonder if he ever will now. If this ever gets to an actual court of law, Blagojevich will certainly try to put member of our Dear Leaders inner circle, including his Chief of Staff, on the stand. Any member of the federal Justice Department who allowed that to happen would quickly find out that it was a serious CLM (Career Limiting Move).

The next question is if Blagojevich will try to take anybody down with him, or hope that if he keeps his mouth shut, he end up with some well paying "consultant" job once things cool down.

I question the timing

As I pointed out, about two thirds of the democrats so called "stimulus" package will not be spent until after 2010.

Now our Dear Leader is telling us over and over again that we need to act quickly on this crisis, so quickly that the members of congress can't read the nearly 500 page bill packed with liberal pork he wants them to vote on right away.

If we must act fast, why is only 8% of that nearly one trillion dollars being spent in 2009?

The answer is clear. The timing is based on politics, not the needs of the American people. The democrats just won an election, they don't see any great need to spend money right away. In fact, the worse things get for average Americans, the better it is for democrats.

Spending kicks up in 2010, just in time for the 2010 mid term elections. Incumbent democrats can point to all the pork in the bill going to their districts as a reason why they should reelected. The bulk of the money starts getting spent in 2011 and 2012. Just in time for our Dear Leader to claim credit while his reelection campaign is in full swing.

So, yes, I question the timing of the democrats pork bill.

An important fact about the dems "stimulus" bill

Harvard economics professor Greg Mankiw points out that over half the spending provided (59%) by the stimulus bill occurs after 2010! Only 8% occurs in 2009 and 33% in 2010.

Senator Chuck Schumer (democrat-HCI) was on FNS stating that government spending put much needed cash into the economy faster than tax cuts. Not if the government hangs onto most of the money for two years! A tax cut would put money into taxpayers hands this year!

The truth of the matter is that the democrats are using the current fiscal crisis (thank you Barney Frank and Chris Dodd) not to address the problem, but to shove through their agenda and private pork projects at the expense of the American people.

I’m off to the Mall to sell razor blades so people can scrape off their “Question Authority” bumper stickers. Just remember: Dissent is still the highest form of patriotism. Except now it will be practiced by the lowest form of people.

Democrat Salvatore DiMasi will resign as Massachusetts House Speaker after a scandal filled reign.

The Boston Globe notes that he is the third Massachusetts House Speaker to end their term in scandal and corruption. What the Globe doesn't state is that DiMasi, Flaherty and Finneran are all democrats.

The democrat culture of corruption is alive and thriving in Massachusetts.

ACORN to get bailout money

You remember ACORN, the far left extremist group that is under FBI investigation for massive and widespread voter fraud (probably not after our Dear Leader's new anti-Civil Rights AG takes office).

ACORN is lining up at trough to get their share of Pork the democrats are pouring into what is supposed to be an economic stimulus bill.

The liberal culture of corruption is alive and thriving under the reign of "hope and change."

The left is all about hate

The left is mired in hate. It's how they operate.
For example, the following is a facebook group.
"Rush Limbaugh is a big fat racist, drug addicted, lying, hypocritical IDIOT"

No policy issues, just raw personal hatred. They probably can't list a single example of racism from Rush, other than his opposition to the policies of their "Dear Leader."

The left is all about hate because they can't stand on their issues.

An accurate review of history

John Stossel provides actual accurate historical facts. This sets him apart from many members of congress and the press.

...in the recession of '82, it reached 10.8 percent. Yet no one even remembers the "crisis" of '82. Today's 7.2 percent unemployment rate is higher than we've grown used to, but we've experienced that rate 16 times over the past 35 years...

That would be the Carter years, when the unemployment rate was in double digits, as was the inflation rate. Mortgage rates were over 20% as well. The worst economy since the FDR era was during the democrat administration of Jimmy Carter.

A liberal's view on Obama's promises

Talkleft blog claims they never believed Our Dear Leader's promise about "no lobbyist" in his administration.

Compare and contrast

The complete professionalism of the GW Bush White House conducting the transition with the Obama team and how the democrat Clinton White House team conducted vandalism prior to George W. Bush taking office.

How long will the press be dictated to?

There are things about BHO that are indicators of how he will run the executive branch. One telling one is how he deals with the press.
Warner Todd Huston notes in NewsBusters:

According to Sun-Times columnist and long-time Chicago journalist, Carol Marin, journalists at Barack Obama news conferences have come to realize that Obama has pre-picked those journalists whom he will allow to ask him questions at the conference and many of them now "don't even bother raising" their hands to be called upon.

Carol Marin writes:
As ferociously as we march like villagers with torches against Blagojevich, we have been, in the true spirit of the Bizarro universe, the polar opposite with the president-elect. Deferential, eager to please, prepared to keep a careful distance.

A big part of BHO's sky high approval ratings comes from a fawning press eager to please him. At some point, those "journalists" who aren't getting called on are going to want something to keep their own circulation numbers up. Our Dear Leader needs to keep this in mind, and that bad news sells.

Let's take a look at Team BHO

The Leather Penguin wonders if any were vetted at all. The answer is of course they were, but the people doing the vetting had a different set of values than Leather Penguin, and a lot of other Americans.

Let's look at some those picks.

New Mexico Gov. Richardson, BHO's pick for Commerce Sec. withdrew his name after his involvement in a "pay for play" scandal, just like the one the Illinois Gov (another democrat) is being impeached over, was noticed by people other than MSM "reporters who wanted to ignore it. Richardson's involvement wasn't new news. The far left liberal democrats on BHO's team knew about this, and they thought it was not a serious enough issue to stop Gov. Richardson's selection.

Carol M. Browner, BHO's pick as his "global warming czar", is a out and out Socialist. A fact that the left is trying to erase from the public record.
Browner was "listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group's Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for "global governance" and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change." That listing is now only found on Internet archives of that groups site. Browner has also drunk deeply from the AGW Kool-Aid (TM), having served on Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection.

As I have said before, I respect environmentalists, but have utter contempt for Watermelons (Thin layer of Green on the outside, Red to the core on the inside). Browner is a hardcore Watermelon.

BHO's pick for treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner, the so-called "smartest guy in the room", claims he didn't know he had to pay self-employment taxes during the years he worked at the International Monetary Fund, but he did know enough to apply for, and receive, payment from the IMF as restitution for taxes he didn't pay. This is the guy who is going to be in charge of the IRS. This obvious bit of corruption was obviously A-OK with the Team BHO vetting team.

So let us review. The following is perfectly acceptable to Team Obama. Illegal "Pay for play" politics, Socialist policies that killed 100 million citizens of Socialist countries in the 20th Century, and flat out tax cheats.

The next four years should be interesting.

Someone at NPR didn't get the memo

There is an actual article on their site criticizing our Dear Leader's choice for Surgeon General.

The article actually argues that Dr. Gupta doesn't have the experience to manage the 6,000 uniformed officers working in the U.S. Public Health Service's Commissioned Corps.

Didn't Dr. Kamerow, a retired assistant surgeon general of the U.S. Public Health Service get the memo? Experience doesn't matter. It's all about Hope and Change.

The Eleventh Doctor

The BBC announced the new Doctor Who.

I really liked David Tennant's Doctor (#10). It will be interesting to see what the 26 year old Matt Smith brings to the role.

The Official Doctor Who List:
1. William Hartnell (1963-1966)
2. Patrick Troughton (1966-1969)
3. Jon Pertwee (1970-1974)
4. Tom Baker (1974-1981)
5. Peter Davison - pictured (1982-1984)
6. Colin Baker (1984-1986)
7. Sylvester McCoy (1987-1996)
8. Paul McGann (1996)
9. Christopher Eccleston (2005)
10. David Tennant (2005-2010)
11. Matt Smith (2010 - ?)

Tom Baker is probably the best known in the US, with his 4 meter scarf and robot dog, K-9. He had the longest run as the Doctor, seven seasons.

democrat Gov. Bill Richardson withdraws from appointment To Be BHO's Commerce Secretary

Barack H. Obama's pick to be Commerce Secretary, democrat New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson has withdrawn his name from the appointment.

It seems that Gov. Richardson is under investigation in a 'pay to play scheme' (like the democrat Gov. of Illinois) involving a company that received a state contract after making a contribution to Richardson's political action committee.

Noel Sheppard, and others, wonder how this got past the Obama vetting process.

You have to dig down 11 paragraphs in the MSNBC story before Gov. Richardson's party (he's a democrat) is mentioned.
