No need to raise taxes...

...just get liberals to actually pay their taxes! Joining the ranks of liberal who callf for raising your taxes and don't pay their own taxes, (such as democrat Senate candidate Al Franken) is uber-liberal far left extremist so-called "journalist" Keith "Bathtub Boy" Olbermann. Details at Olbermann Watch.

New York State has issued a tax warrant against Keith Olbermann for failure to pay taxes on his humbly named personal corporation, Olbermann Broadcasting Empire, Inc. Olbermann is listed in legal records as the President of Olbermann Broadcasting Empire, Inc.

A call to the Albany County Clerk's Office in upstate New York confirmed that the warrant is still outstanding and that Olbermann has still failed to pay his back taxes. State records show that Olbermann's company failed to pay $2,269.50 in state taxes. A judgement was entered against Olbermann last summer (Docket Date: 8/21/2007), just weeks before Olbermann closed on a a luxurious $4.2 mm condo at Trump Palace, at 200 East 69th Street.

Air America in the News again.

Not for another station dropping the hard far left extremist liberal Err America feed, which is why they are typically in the news.

This goes back to their looting of Bronx charity to ease their cash flow problems.
According to the NY Post:

Evan Montvel-Cohen was picked up by border-patrol officers at Guam International Airport on an outstanding warrant from Hawaii. He had been indicted there last month for money laundering and the theft of more than $60,000 from a Honolulu landscaping firm, prosecutors said.

"We at DOI are not surprised to hear that Mr. Montvel-Cohen was arrested on theft and money-laundering charges," said Rose Gill Hearn, commissioner of the city's Department of Investigation, which probed the looting of the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club in Co-op City.

It was Montvel-Cohen who, as development director for Gloria Wise, convinced other club officials in 2003 and 2004 to give $875,000 of taxpayer money to the radio network where he was a top executive and co-founder.

He also received loans from the club of more than $45,000 that were never repaid.

"Eco-Tourists" stuck in thick Arctic Ice

By way of AoSHQ is this story from Watts Up With That?. Disciples of Cult of Algore, who are taught that the "Northwest Passage" is almost ice-free these days and getting worse, took a luxury cruise on a Russian ice breaker to see the "environmental deviation." Then reality took over and the ship hit ice, thick ice. From the Globe and Mail story tells this tale of woe:

The ice master studies the mountains of white packed around the ship while the 24,000-horsepower diesel engines work at full throttle to open a path. The ship rises slowly onto the barrier of ice, crushes it and tosses aside blocks the size of small cars as if they were ice cubes in a glass. It creeps ahead a few metres, then comes to a halt, its bow firmly wedged in the ice. After doing this for two days, the ship can go no farther.

The ice master confers with the captain, who makes a call to the engine room. The engines are shut down. He turns to those of us watching the drama unfold, and we are shocked by his words: “Now, only nature can help this ship.” We are doomed to drift.

What irony. I am a passenger on one of the most powerful icebreakers in the world, travelling through the Northwest Passage - which is supposed to become almost ice-free in a time of global warming, the next shipping route across the top of the world - and here we are, stuck in the ice, engines shut down, bridge deserted. Only time and tide can free us.

After seven days, the ice pack shifted enough for the powerful Russian ice breaker to move. Hardly the vision provided by Backpacker Magazine, which claimed "The ice is so low that the photos clearly show a viable northwest passage sea route along the coasts of Greenland, Canada, and Alaska."

I'm betting that most of the Cultists aboard will not let the reality they saw with their own eyes sway their belief system.

Yes, the arctic ice melted at record levels last summer, but then over the winter it froze back, covering more area than before and with record thickness. That however doesn't fit the model of the Cultists.

Is it a good idea to cut back on carbon based pollution? Hell ya! Otherwise you end up like China, where they are building a new dirty coal based power plant every month and people are dropping like flies from lung aliments. Should we commit economic suicide at the same time, like the Kyoto Protocols call for? Hell No!

Step back, look at the science and run the numbers. Figure out which actually makes more sense, a hybrid car that is less environmentally friendly to manufacture than a H2 Hummer or a 4 banger that gets 40+ MPG highway?

The current issue of Wired has a good article called Inconvenient Truths: Get Ready to Rethink What It Means to Be Green. Reading may cause some leftists heads to explode, but then the truth will do that.

First Salute

First Salute, originally uploaded by Eclipse Pics (∆ncient).

First Salutes were done after the commissioning of a batch of fresh new O1s from the Charles River Battalion.

It's no wonder...

...the movement to drop the Massachusetts income tax is so popular.

Our current democrat Governor Deval Patrick has increased the budget of his own office by 78%.

It now costs Massachusetts taxpayers $9 million a year for the privilege of being governed by the Man Behind the Curtain.
...
Where is the money going? Well, you can’t expect the Cadillac of Governors to operate with a Chevrolet pit crew. So he’s bumped the paid staff up above 70, including jobs like “director of grassroots governance,” a “grassroots governance liaison” (hey, you don’t expect the director to do the “liazing” himself, do ya?) and director of online strategy.

The governor’s spokesperson, Cyndi Roy defended these new jobs by insisting “the people of Massachusetts deserve to have their voices heard.”

As long as they’re not voting on income-tax rollbacks or same-sex marriage, that is.

Another $3 million or so is being used to pay for the volunteers in Patrick’s self-aggrandizing “Commonwealth Corps” community service program. What kind of volunteers have to be paid for community service? Why, Devalunteers, of course!

Cold Cash Jefferson is back in the news.

Ok, so the MSM won't give this much play, but democrat Congressman William "Cold Cash" Jefferson, who got caught with $90,000 in cash hidden in his freezer after taking a $100,000 bribe is in trouble again. Patterico has the details:

A civil complaint filed yesterday in a Louisiana federal court reveals new details of an alleged bribery scheme involving Rep. William Jefferson. The alleged bribe is different from the ones for which Jefferson has been indicted. The new details are revealed exclusively here on patterico.com for the first time.

The background: last month, guest blogger DRJ and I reported on a motion by indicted Louisiana attorney James G. Perdigao. Perdigao’s motion leveled serious accusations of wrongdoing by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana — and raised new accusations of bribery of then-U.S. Attorney Eddie Jordan and U.S. Representative William Jefferson.

Perdigao’s allegations may help Governor Edwin Edwards challenge his conviction for taking bribes, in return for issuing valuable riverboat casino licenses. Businessman Robert Guidry made about $100 million from one of those licenses, and then testified against Edwards. But Guidry’s plea bargain raised eyebrows across the state. Not only did Guidry receive only five months in a halfway house, but prosecutors also allowed him to keep more than $96 million of the $100 million he made from the illegally obtained license.

When will Obama meet with General Petraeus?

American Energy

By way of TigerHawk is this article about America and Energy:

Candidate Obama, like so many lefties, seems to believe anything bad about the United States, without even submitting it to critical thinking. He said on May 19, 2008, for example, that 3% of the world’s population (i.e., in his calculation, the United States) accounts for 25% of the greenhouse gases put into the atmosphere. In the 1970s, the lefties used to talk about 6% of the world’s population using 25% of the world’s energy. Even before Obama, they were blaming America first.

...the United States has invented nearly 100% of what the modern world means by “energy.” And it has helped the rest of the world to use 75%.

Why can’t the other peoples of the world learn how to discover, invent, and develop new kinds of energy? Why must the whole burden be placed upon the people of the United States?

TigerHawk sums up the leftist mindset well.
In the end this is just another variant on the anti-Americanism of people who assume that the world's wealth was found in the ground or given to us by Allah or extracted from the stolen labor of working people. If you believe -- as I do -- that wealth is the surest expression of human creativity, then you also believe that America's great inventions spring from our system, not the natural resources with which we have been endowed or the winnings of imperialism. But most peoples of the world (including American leftists) do not understand this -- which is why they do not invent anything important -- and instead view American wealth as if it were looted, rather than created. Hey, if I thought America was rich from theft rather than creativity, I'd feel guilty too.

Recent Reads

I’ve gotten some good reading in recently. Two by S.M. Stirling, In the Courts of the Crimson Kings, the sequel to The Sky People , and The Sunrise Lands.
The Sunrise Lands is part of his “Change” series, which is a spin off of his Island in the Sea of Time series. It was a fun read. It read quickly and had good action scenes. A touch of science fiction, with a short scene of inter dimensional shifts. The other two are good old fashioned space adventure. The first takes place on a Venus with dinosaurs, saber toothed cats, Neanderthals and beautiful native tribal princesses. The other takes place on a Mars that John Carter and Kickaha would be comfortable in.

William Gibson’s Spook Country was good, not as good as Pattern Recognition , but a fun read.

David Weber’s Off Armageddon Reef was a long read, but actually surprisingly good.
His books tend to be very long, often with long sections could be cut with no loss to the story.
This one has them too, but not as many. At one point, Weber details each Priest interacting with each kingdom’s rulers. He made sure that you knew he has detailed out every branch of each organization of the church, including the colors of their robes and the symbols denoting their rank. It ends with a big wet navy, age of sail, sea battle.

Tom Kratman's latest, Caliphate is a frightening view of a possible future. It was also a very good adventure read. My favorite of his so far. Ok, I really liked Yellow Eyes too, but that has the added feature of being in John Ringo’s Legacy of the Aldenata universe, which I really like.

Caliphate
is probably going to get a boost in sales because of its mention on Instapundit.

Jimmy Carter's Second Term

I'm been saying that Barak Obama is a Jimmy Carter retread for a while.
The American Spectator has picked up on that as well.

The question for the rest of the year is this: Are there enough voting Americans who survived the disastrous odyssey through the late 1970s that was led by blessedly now ex-president Jimmy Carter? While Ronald Reagan is rated in poll after poll by Americans as a great president, (most recently he rated second only to Lincoln), are there enough people who recall that Reagan's election came about because of Carter's...ahhh..."performance" in the Oval Office? And will they be able to make the Obama-Carter connection for younger voters hearing terms like "windfall profits tax" for the first time?
...
Consciously or not, Obama has selected the philosophical template of the Carter administration, from defunding the military, fighting the "special interests" down to imposing the windfall profits tax on the rich.
...
IS IT POSSIBLE that America really wants to return to those depressing days of gas lines and leisure suits? Of malaise and shock over the aggressiveness of America's enemies? The days when the policies Obama is advocating raised unemployment rates, interest rates and inflation rates into the double digits? When America's enemies looked the President of the United States in the eye -- and found he really wanted to kiss them on the cheek?
...
Obama's windfall profits tax idea? A Jimmy Carter biggie. "Unless we tax the oil companies, they will reap huge and undeserved windfall profits," fumed Carter on national television in 1980. The New York Times agreed, warning darkly that "legislators who sit by idly while oil profits soar will have to answer to the voters." With Democrats controlling Congress they got their way. As if on cue, oil production -- fell. To the tune of 1.6 billion fewer barrels. America's dependence on foreign oil rose.

democrat propaganda

NewBusters points out:

In America, you need to show identification to buy alcohol, get into a bar, or apply for a job. Yet, for some reason, liberal media members think that Republicans who advocate voter ID laws do so exclusively to prevent Democrats from going to polling booths.

What voter ID laws do is assure that American Citizens get to exercise their legal right to vote, without being disenfranchised by illegal aliens, or by the all too common practice in democrat strongholds of registering dead people and sending in ringers to vote in their name. Removing such illegal methods will remove a solid voting block that traditionally trends heavily democrat. So of course the DNC and its members will fight against the Rights of American Citizens in this case.

Know the science before making accusations

I had a friend tell me, in a very accusatory fashion, “Dude, you don’t even believe in Global Warming.”
I replied that I didn’t believe in the Cult of Algore, but scientific study has shown that the planet has clearly been getting warming since the end of the Little Ice Age in the middle of the 19th Century. To which my accuser replied, “The what?” So I explained to him about the well documented period where the Thames froze solid enough that the city of London had “Ice Festivals”, where people built shacks on the in the middle of the river and people walked out to them for a good three months out of the year. This was well documented in the literature and newspapers of the time. “So,” I continued, “the planet is obviously warmer than it was during the Little Ice age. The question is will it get as warm as it was during the Medieval Warm Period.” To this bit of actual scientific data, as opposed to the Cult of Algore scare mongering, he replied, “I don’t know about that.” So, I explained that this was the period prior to the Little Ice Age, where temperatures were warmer than they are now (and there is no evidence that Manhattan was under water then). There are records of wheat being grown in Greenland and that the London area was good wine country at this time. Even today, there are street names and other parts of London that reference vineyards and wine production. This was well before the Industrial Revolution, so clearly “man made green house gases” had nothing to do with that global warm period.

The actual science that I presented failed to convince my friend, I think it was because his wife is “True Believer” in the Cult of Algore, which has been proven to cherry pick and even twist data to fit their model, and has been filling his head with crap. I pointed out that there was a lot of real data available for anyone to check. Hopefully he took the time to do his own research rather than accept the junk science of the Cult of Algore.

Meanwhile in Iraq...

By way of Hot Air is news that you won't see on CBS/MSNBC/NY Times and the rest of the usual suspects.

The U.S. ambassador to Iraq said Saturday that al-Qaida’s network in the country has never been closer to defeat, and he praised Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki for his moves to rein in Shiite and Sunni militant groups…

“There is important progress for the Iraqi forces in confronting the Sunni and Shiite militias,” he said, speaking Arabic to reporters. “The government, the prime minister are showing a clear determination to take on extremist armed elements that challenge the government’s authority … no matter who these elements are.”

“You are not going to hear me say that al-Qaida is defeated, but they’ve never been closer to defeat than they are now,” Crocker said.

The U.S. military says attacks have dropped dramatically — down to an average of 41 a day across the country, the lowest rate since 2004 — amid the crackdowns and truces. The U.S. military, backed by Sunni Arab tribal fighters, have scored successes in battling al-Qaida in Iraq and other Sunni insurgents in western parts of the country.

A rare moment of honesty from a democrat

The far hard left liberal extremist democrat from California, Maxine Waters has a rare moment of honesty on camera as she shows her true Socialist nature.

She must have made Hugo Chavez very proud.

Michelle Malkin has a good round up of the leftist hypocrisy about gas prices.

SUVs on Jupiter?

According to the text on this Astronomy Picture of the Day, "Jupiter's recent outbreak of red spots is likely related to large scale climate change as the gas giant planet is getting warmer near the equator."

Emphasis is mine. Perhaps Chelsea Clinton should push to have Jupiter sign the Kyoto Accords.

A John Ringo approved book review

It's actually a review of the first few books of the Ghost series, and have read them all, it's pretty spot on accurate. John Ringo himself approves.

Keeping it in the family

For those are who are tired of the political families like the Clinton and Bush families, let's not forget the Kennedys.
The Daily News reports on how Senator Ted Kennedy wants to keep his Senate seat in the family:

Ted Kennedy has made clear to confidants that when his time is up, he wants his Senate seat to stay in the family - with his wife, Vicki.

Multiple sources in Massachusetts with close ties to the liberal lion say his wife of 16 years has long been his choice to continue carrying the family flame in the Senate. Kennedy won the seat in 1962; his brother John held it from 1953 to 1960.

By going with the Lovely Miss Vicky, the Senator is bypassing his nephew Joe, a former congressman with ties to Venezuelan Socialist Hugo Chavez, and his own son, who is in congress, supposedly representing the people of Rhode Island.

HT to Bob Parks

Update: The New England Republican points out the the flat out hypocrisy of the democrat controlled Massachusetts legislative branch.
The leader of the Massachusetts House says he will support giving Gov. Deval Patrick the power to appoint an interim successor to U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy if that becomes necessary.

The Democratic-controlled Legislature stripped Republican Gov. Mitt Romney of that authority in 2004 because of fears he would name a Republican to replace U.S. Sen. John Kerry if he had been elected president.

Instead, state law now requires a special election for the seat no sooner than 145 days and no later than 160 days after the vacancy occurs.

But House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi said yesterday if Kennedy should step aside or have to be replaced because of his brain tumor diagnosis, he’d be in favor of a gubernatorial appointment.

“That was a good political reason (then),” DiMasi said of taking the power away from Romney. “It’s a good political reason to change it back.”

At least there is some honesty shown

Newsbusters has this story about liberal democrat actor Kevin Spacey taking about a liberal fantasy movie about the 2000 Presidential election in Florida. Spacey admits that the film is heavily biases toward the democrat fantasy view of that election. The big lie he spouts is this “It does seem that on the one hand the Bush people were trying to stop votes from being counted and the Gore people were just trying to get votes counted.”

That is, of course, utter and complete bullshit. The historic reality of the matter is that George W. Bush won the full state election, the recount of the full state election, and every one of the district recounts carefully cherry picked by the Gore campaign and the DNC. It was the democrats who tried to block neutral and Republican observers from recount rooms. It was the democrats who sent teams of hit lawyers across the states to have absentee ballots from US military personnel serving overseas (many in places the Clinton/Gore administration sent them, like Bosnia and Kosovo) thrown out, because they knew the military demographic tended to vote heavily Republican. The last thing the Gore campaign and the DNC wanted was a complete state wide recount. If they could have the votes from the entire panhandle section of Florida thrown out, they would have pushed for that too.

The democrats are spreading this revisionist history and they are preparing to to do it again, according to their advocates at MSNBC.

During MSNBC's live coverage of the Kentucky and Oregon Democratic presidential primaries on Tuesday, NBC's Andrea Mitchell seemed to take seriously suggestions by Hillary Clinton "loyalists" who argue that Republicans in control of the election process in some red states Barack Obama hopes to carry may deny him a "fair vote" in the November general election.

This is a sad truth about the democrats, they have to lie, not only to attempt to win elections, but they also feel the need to lie about why they loose elections. The truth just isn't in them.

Color me not surprised

The New York Times runs a story on how Jews in Florida (and anywhere else if they pay attention) are not on the Obama bandwagon.

“The people here, liberal people, will not vote for Obama because of his attitude towards Israel,” Ms. Weitz, 83, said, lingering over brunch.

“They’re going to vote for McCain,” she said.
...
On Thursday, Mr. Obama will court Jewish voters with an appearance at a synagogue in Boca Raton, Fla. A longtime Democratic constituency with a consistently high turnout rate, Jews are important to his general election hopes, particularly in New York, which he expects to win; in California and New Jersey, which he must keep out of Republican hands; and, most crucially, here in Florida, where Jews make up around 5 percent of voters.

Barak H. Obama has the twin albatrosses of Rev. Wright and Louis Farrakhan around his neck when it comes to the Jewish vote. Wright's church, of which Obama was a member for decades, has a long history of attacks against Israel and support of those who want the Jewish state destroyed. If he wants those votes, he needs to be more of Barry Obama, the Harvard Law School grad, and less of Barak Hussein Obama, the member of the Black Activist Church that preached that Israel is planning genocide against Arabs and that American had it coming on 9/11/2001.

Barack Obama: perpetual gaffe machine

Michelle Malkin points out some of the whoppers Barak H. Obama has made, and the MSM, which is totally in the tank for him, gives him a pass on.

Last May, he claimed that tornadoes in Kansas killed a whopping 10,000 people: "In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed." The actual death toll: 12.

Earlier this month in Oregon, he redrew the map of the United States: “Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.”

Explaining last week why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, Obama again botched basic geography: “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.” On what map is Arkansas closer to Kentucky than Illinois?

Earlier this month in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Obama showed off his knowledge of the war in Afghanistan by homing in on a lack of translators: “We only have a certain number of them, and if they are all in Iraq, then it’s harder for us to use them in Afghanistan.” The real reason it’s “harder for us to use them” in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi, or other non-Arabic languages.

Last March, the Chicago Tribune reported this little-noticed nugget about a fake autobiographical detail in Obama’s Dreams from My Father: “Then, there’s the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don’t exist, say the magazine’s own historians.”

Go read the whole thing.

Senator Kennedy diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor

I'm no fan of the Commonwealth's senior Senator by no means, but I do acknowledge that he craps bigger than most of the current crop of liberal democrat congress critters (like Pelosi and Reid for example).

Unlike Senators who choose their states based on convenience (like the senator sitting the seat that is supposed to represent New York state), Ted Kennedy is Massachusetts born and bred. He knows that taking care of his base is the key to his success. I know Commonwealth residents who have called his office and found themselves on the phone with the Senator inside five minutes.

I wish him well in dealing with his cancer. Brain tumors are typically fatal over a short number of years, so it will probably beat his liver out as cause of death.
Senator Kennedy has lived his life on his terms (his family's vast fortune built on illegal booze smuggling made that possible). Perhaps this reminder of his morality will cause him to brush up what he will say to Mary Jo when they meet again.

Another crushing defeat for Obama

Hillary Rodham Clinton crushed her democrat rival Barak Hussein Obama in Kentucky. Currently, it is reported as a 36 point lead for HRC (67% to 31%). This is on the heels of her 41 point defeat of Obama in West Virginia. Hillary followed up with speech saying she is going to take this to the convention floor.

What we are seeing a nasty fight between the the two factions of the democrat party.
The Clinton faction against the faction of the party bought and paid for by George Soros that backs the hard far left extremist Barak Obama. Neither side is good for America, but the Soros/Obama branch worries me more.

The double standard pops up again.

Ace points out the DNC's double standard in demanding the press only report the things they approve when Michelle Obama is on the campaign trail, while going after Cindy McCain.

Confederate Yankee sums it up nicely:

Michelle Obama is going to be making three campaign stops in Kentucky today, but even if she says something incredibly inflammatory or depressed, her husband requests, nay, demands that only the positive be aired.

Will it work? Who knows, but one thing is certain: if he doesn't want us to talk about her, he can tell her to leave the campaign trail and go back to the Hundred Acre Wood.

Chicago. I meant Chicago.

Why gas prices have spiked.

It's interesting to note that relatively stable gas prices spiked sharply upwards after the democrats took control of congress. There is a laundry list of reasons why those two items are related. Here they are, by way of Gateway Pundit:

Which party blocked the development of new sources of petroleum?-- Democrat
Which party blocked drilling in ANWR?-- Democrat
Which party blocked drilling off the coast of Florida?-- Democrat
Which party blocked drilling off of the east coast?-- Democrat
Which party blocked drilling off of the west coast?-- Democrat
Which party blocked drilling off the Alaskan coast?-- Democrat
Which party blocked building oil refineries?-- Democrat
Which party blocked clean nuclear energy production?-- Democrat
Which party blocked clean coal production?-- Democrat

It really is that bad

BloodRayne is on SciFi tonight. It really is that bad.

The Silky Pony endorsement

One term Senator John Edwards, who couldn't even carry his own state when he was part of the losing Kerry/Edwards ticket in 2004, gave his endorsement to Barak H. Obama.
In a careful calculated move to move Hillary Rodham Clinton's stunning 41 point victory over Obama in West Virginia off the media front page, the former trial lawyer and Gulfstream liberal made his announcement.
Clearly Edwards is trying to salvage his political career by attaching himself to Obama. My bet is that he is bucking for the VP slot.

The buzz is that Edwards will bring "white, working-class voters" to the Obama camp. A demographic Obama has not being doing well with (unlike Monica Lewinski's ex-boyfriend's wife). I'm not buying into that fantasy. Edwards is a creature of the hard far left extremist liberal end of the democrat party, just like Barak Hussein Obama. Getting the same nutroots worked up into a frenzy isn't going to add to the number of votes Obama is going to need in the general election.
Just look back to the primary results from South Carolina: Obama 55%, Clinton 27%, John "Silky Pony" Edwards trailing with a pathetic 18%.
The Kentucky primary is coming up and HRC will probably beat Obama there as well.
Her campaign staff is probably happy with Edwards endorsement pick, since they don't want that silky albatross around their necks.

The RNC catches up with me.

I've been calling Barak Hussein Obama the second coming of Jimmy Carter for a while.
Change this country doesn't need is a return to Carter era double digit inflation and unemployment.

The NY Times calls for the US to Invade!

Yup, the NY York Times joins the leftist hypocrites at Time Magazine in calling for the US to invade Burma, or whatever they are calling themselves these days.

Reality vs. "The International Community"

By way of Michael Graham comes the true words of Australian columnist Janet Albrechtsen:

“The need [of UN supporters] to paint Americans as a greedy, selfish, war-mongering superpower cannot be disturbed by facts. It matters not that, in the year before the tsunami, the US provided $2.4 billion in humanitarian relief: 40per cent of all the relief aid given to the world in 2003. Never mind that development and emergency relief rose from $10 billion during the last year of Bill Clinton's administration to $24 billion under George W. Bush in 2003. Or that, according to a German study, Americans contribute to charities nearly seven times as much a head as Germans do. Or that, adjusted for population, American philanthropy is more than two-thirds more than British giving.

There is a teenaged immaturity about the rest of the world's relationship with the US. Whenever a serious crisis erupts somewhere, our dependence on the US becomes obvious, and many hate the US because of it. That the hatred is irrational is beside the point.”

As one wit accurately put it, The "international community" can suck Elvis' dead left nut.

A 41 point landslide

Hillary Rodham Clinton beat Barak Hussein Obama 67% to 26% in the West Virginia democrat primary yesterday.

Perhaps Barak would have done better if he thought the people of West Virginia important enough to even show up.

No Barak in West Virginia

By way of Mr. du Toit, is this tidbit from the Washington Times:

Here in the Mountain State, where faith, firearms and patriotism are bedrock, Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama is failing to connect, trailing in the run-up to today’s primary election by 40 points in some polls.

Barak H. Obama was all over North Carolina, where he got 91% of the black vote.
He's not showing his face in the mostly white West Virginia. Draw your own conclusions.

Two Clinton Scenarios

Jay Severin reviews two possible scenarios for Hillary Rodham Clinton's actions.

SCENARIO ONE (drops out prior to convention):

As recorded here several weeks ago, H Clinton will stay in long enough (as many primaries as she can win/pain inflict on opponent) to Drive The Best Deal She Can...and that means creating maximum leverage, cutting the deal(s), then dropping out.
...
SCENARIO TWO (goes to convention) :

Satan Stays In.
Because she believes
she can win enough remaining primaries to change momentum/perception.
...
Scenario #1 requires enormous guts, determination and the soul of a contract killer.
Scenario #2 requires shamelessness possessed only by a sociopath.

Either way, no problem!

No wonder Mexicans are fleeing to the United States

There is a massive Drug War going on in Mexico.

Drug cartels seeking to keep control over huge swathes of Mexico have been on a rampage. In the past two weeks alone, at least 10 police officials have been murdered -- including the chief of Mexico's federal police, Edgar Millan.

Millan was gunned down outside his home Thursday morning. On Friday, the killings continued with the the shooting death of Esteban Robles Espinosa, commander of Mexico City's police detectives. His body was riddled with eight bullets.

President Felipe Calderon began taking on the cartels last year, deploying the nation's military to bolster police activities. So far, estimates say more than 3,000 Mexicans have been killed, with almost 1,000 deaths this year alone in a brutal struggle by the civilian government to reassert authority.
...
The Bush administration has psuhed Congress for the Merida Initiative -- a $500 million emergency aid package to help Mexico's beleuguered effort to fight the cartels.

But the aid bill is getting resistance from Congressional Democrats who hav complained about the lack of focus on social improvements in Mexico. Last week two unions, the AFL-CIO and the United Steelworkers, came out against the aid bill, citing Mexico's human rights abused.

Double Plus Good DuckSpeak at Time Magazine

Remember all the reasons the left gave on why the US shouldn't have invaded Iraq?
It's a sovereign nation, there is no threat to US security, give the UN a chance, etc., etc.

Well all that is forgotten at the left wing Time Magazine, where they have an article entitled "Is It Time to Invade Burma?"

"We're in 2008, not 1908," says Jan Egeland, the former U.N. emergency relief coordinator. "A lot is at stake here. If we let them get away with murder we may set a very dangerous precedent."

That's why it's time to consider a more serious option: invading Burma.

Blast From The Past

"There was once, O men of Athens, something in the minds of the people that is no longer there --something that defeated the might and wealth of Persia, that vindicated the liberty of Greece, the was never conquered on land or sea, and that is now gone, leaving all Greece in turmoil and dismay.

"And what was that? Nothing elaborate or abstruse, but the simple fact all men hated those who took bribes from the seekers of power and the agents of subversion. That was accounted the greatest of crimes, so that he who was convicted of having been corrupted of bribes or by favors was condemned to the ultimate penalty, with no room for excuse and no hope for pardon.

... But now everything is for sale ... For what are now the consequnces of treason? Envy, for those who have profited; laughter for those who confess; pardon for those who are convicted; and hatred--hatred is now reserved for the man who speaks harshly of treason."

-- Demosthenes, 341 B.C. (written three years before Athens lost her independence)

The reason I bring this up is that Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of the House of Saud has been shopping again.

Color me not surprised

Former democrat presidential candidate Al Sharpton and his business entities owe nearly $1.5 million in overdue taxes and associated penalties, according to the AP.

Given Sharpton's history, massive tax debt is hardly surprising, and appears to be a running theme for democrats.

History repeats

According to the AP:

Myanmar's junta seized U.N. aid shipments Friday meant for a multitude of hungry and homeless survivors of last week's devastating cyclone, forcing the world body to suspend further help.

The aid included 38 tons of high-energy biscuits and arrived in Myanmar on Friday on two flights from Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates.

"All of the food aid and equipment that we managed to get in has been confiscated," U.N. World Food Program spokesman Risley said.

This is what was happening in Somalia back in the early 90's.
The government in Myanmar doesn't care about what happens to the citizens, out side of those needed to support their power base.
My guess is that they will use this as an excuse to kill off, through neglect, those that they don't consider necessary. That is why they don't want any out side observers. They just want the materials, which they will only give to those they want kept alive and use the rest to build their power base.

Iraqi Military shoots and scores!

By way of AoSHQ is this bit of good news:

The Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman says the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq has been arrested in the northern city of Mosul.

Spokesman Mohammed al-Askari says the arrest of Abu Ayyub al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, was confirmed to him by the Iraqi commander of the province.

Update: Numerous sources advise waiting on popping corks until the US Military confirms this. Mr. Reynolds does make a on target observation on the subject matter:
Remember how Richard Clarke was worried that Osama would "boogie to Baghdad" if we invaded Afghanistan? Well, I guess he was right to worry, in general if not in specific. . . . I guess it's no big surprise -- Saddam offered bin Laden asylum back in 1999 -- but given that nowadays a lot of people pretend that any kind of cooperation between Saddam and Al Qaeda is unimaginable, it's worth pointing out.

Why so bitter?

Absinthe & Cookies asks a damn good question about Michelle Obama.

I've been thinking about Michelle Obama lately. I admit, I don't get her. She's my age, but that's about all we have in common. She has a loving husband, healthy children, an Ivy League education, and makes more money than me and my entire family combined. And yet, she seems so angry, and dare I say it, bitter. In Michelle Obama's world, living in America sucks. And yet, she is blessed with a life few of us will ever have. She doesn't have to worry about her next paycheck, or paying a credit card bill, or paying her rent when it goes up. I doubt she ever lived out of the family car when she was a teenager. But instead of feeling blessed at what being an American woman brings her, she's angry; all the time, it would seem.

Trouble in Canada

Dave in Texas reports in AoSHQ, that the Canadian government has "revised emission targets, claiming the ones previously agreed to are unachievable, totally unrealistic and caca poopoo."

Canada had agreed under the international Kyoto Protocol to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to 6.0 percent below 1990 levels by 2012, but emissions have instead increased by more than 35 percent.

Last year, the government outlined a new plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent, based on 2006 levels, by 2020, saying the targets agreed to by the previous administration were unattainable.

Dave then nails it shut:
I'll add Dave in Texas' .02 here: the revised target is also unachievable, totally unrealistic and caca poopoo.

The only way they can "reduce" emissions is to participate in the stupid ponzi game of trading carbon credits with other countries, because there's no way in hell they're actually gonna reduce jack shit. And if the UN overlords decide against them on registry compliance, they'll be barred from doing that.

I'm sure the current admin is really, really worried about that.

Say what you want about Billy Jeff "Bubba" Clinton, but he isn't stupid.
There were very good reasons he deep sixed the Kyoto Treaty by never sending it to the Senate for ratification after his VP Al Gore signed it.
One was the unanimous vote by the US Senate saying they were against what was clearly an economic treaty designed to punish the US and other first world countries.
Anybody who tries to tell you that the Kyoto Protocols were an "environmental" treaty is either ignorant or lying.

Your Tax Dollars at work.

WCBS News sheds some much needed light at how your tax dollars are being spent by members of Congress:

You may not realize it, but members of the House of Representatives can lease a car and have it paid for by you -- the taxpayer. And it's not just the car, but gas, registration, insurance … the works.
...
[democrat] Congressman Charles Rangel was recently seen getting out of his Cadillac DeVille, which he leases for $774 per month. Then there was [democrat] Congressman Jose Serrano, getting out of his Buick LaCrosse, which he leases for $317 per month. And how about this one: [democrat] Congressman Gregory Meeks was recently seen waiting for [democrat] Congressman John Conyers to step out of Meeks' Lexus LS460, which Meeks leases for $998 per month.

WCBS didn't identify the party of the congressmen in article. Not surprisingly, they are all democrats living large at the tax payer's expense.

She's still in the race

Well, Barak did beat HRC in North Carolina by over 10%. Hillary Rodham Clinton isn't taking the hint though. She squeaked by in Indiana and gave a speech today saying that she is staying in the race. She is pushing to get the Michigan and Florida races counted, despite their knowingly breaking the DNC rules.

A lot of DNC officials would like her to drop out, for the good of the party.
Reality check time, she's a Clinton, neither Hillary or Bill have ever put the good of the party ahead of their personal ambitions. She'll drop out only if she runs completely out of money (not likely) or the party offers her something to make it worth her while to do so.

Update: Mr. Reynolds points out that Ted Kennedy went to the convention in 1980 with a lot smaller share of the vote.

If Barak wants to put Hillary down...

...ok, I'll pass on the cheap and easy pantsuit joke.
Seriously, unless he beats her by 10% or more in North Carolina, and she wins, by whatever margin, in Indiana, HRC isn't going anywhere.

She'll keep fighting all the way to Denver. Especially if she wins by 5% or more in Indiana. She can keep pushing the democrat party overseers (the so-called "super delegates") that she has won the key states that are needed in a general election.

The democrat uber-delegates are there to keep a fringe candidate from getting the nomination. The more we see of Barak Obama, the more clear it becomes to more and more people, that he is a far hard left wing extremist candidate, that will not fair well in a general election against a centrist Republican like John McCain.

The question is, will the democrat party overseers have the guts to not give the nomination to the far hard left wing extremist candidate, who did collect more elected delegates than HRC, just because they are afraid of the race riots that will occur if they give the nod to another potential Clinton term. I'm predicting that they will not have the guts/backbone/whatever to do it. They will bow to the nutroots wing of the party and start planning for 2012.

"Green" Celebs with massive Carbon Footprints

The Daily Mail has a good article on celebrities that tell their fans to use less while they consume massive amounts of, well just about everything, and produce giant carbon footprints.
Some of the biggest hypocrites:

Chris Martin of the uber-whiny band Cold Play, who racks up at least 100,000 miles a year on his private jet.

John Travolta, a pilot who owns five private jets (a Boeing 707, three Gulfstreams and a Learjet). He has been known to fly, by himself, across the Atlantic, in the 707, which can carry up to 150 passengers.

United Nations Watch

Daniel Hannan at the UK Telegram has an update on the latest United Nations actions.
At the top of the list, so-called UN "peacekeepers" in the Congo have been encouraging elephant poaching!

Other UN highlights include:
- betraying the Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica.
- illicitly running oil-for-food scams with Saddam.
- ordering its local commander not to seize the arms caches that were about to be used for the Rwandan genocide.
- UN officials been accused of selling arms to the Congolese militias.

Remember kids, democrats wants to base US foreign policy on what these guys want.

Mean while, in the UK...

Conservatives sweep elections across Britain.
The uber-liberal labor party types who got tossed out include the Mayor of London:

The outcome of the London race follows a catastrophic result for Gordon Brown and the Labour Party in local elections across England and Wales.

An emotional Ken LivingstoneAfter what he described as a “bad” and “disappointing” night, the Prime Minister’s party came third in the share of the national vote.

Labour has lost well over 400 seats in local elections across England and Wales - the Conservatives have gained 300 seats and nine councils.

Sky’s political editor Adam Boulton says the result is “beyond the worst” predicted by most analysts.

“This a shattering result for Gordon Brown and Labour,” he said.

HT to Pilgrim at Say Anything.

The Brits have figured out that goofy far hard left extremist policies are bad for the country and its citizens. A lesson that democrats here in the US should pay attention to.

No Microhoo

Microsoft drops its plan to buy Yahoo.

The big winner, Google.

This shouldn't come as a suprise

DNC chair Howard Dean is a lying weasel.

He must know that he is flat out lying when he says that hundreds of thousands of Republicans crossed over to vote in democrat primaries because they "support the democrat candidates."

What a crock of horse shit. They crossed over to vote in democrat primaries to screw over the democrat party and keep the democrats fighting each other all the way to Denver. Trying to claim anything else just shows how out of touch with reality and desperate he is.

Here is another ray of reality, bringing up the words of Obama's spiritual mentor, Rev. Wright, is not racist. Trying to claim it is is an act of desperation. Wright is is a open, bleeding wound in the Obama campaign. His supporters are trying every dirty trick in the book to bind that wound.

Here is the Obama's campaign problem with Rev. Wright, they don't have any actual facts about Barry H. Obama to push Wright out of the news. Ok, they do have some facts about him, but they don't want to put his voting record, or his anti-civil rights victim disarmament policies, out in front of the general American public.

Iron Man

I saw it. Good movie. Robert Downey, Jr. really carried it. He did a great job. It seemed to me that Jeff Bridges was doing a Kris Kristofferson impression the entire movie. Stick through the credits for the Samuel Jackson appearance.
