Energy policy, or lack there of

Pilgrim notes the painfully obvious:

We sit on our hands while China begins drilling near Cuba. We don’t build any new refineries, making us very vulnerable if something happens to the ones we have. We can’t build any new nuclear plants because…..well, I suspect the conversation about all of the above would go something like this:

Right: Let’s drill for new oil and gas.

Left: Are you kidding? Not in ANWR. No sir, no way. Caribou. Florida? Nope. Reefs. Fish, that sort of thing. Out of the question. California? Not in our back yard, pal.

Right: Okay, how about nuclear energy…..

Left: (Unintelligible howls of indignation)

Right: Okay, offshore wind farms…..

Left: Birds. They kill birds. Plus they’re noisy and block the view. Can’t do that.

Right: Well, give me a suggestion? What do you think we should do?

Left: Blame Bush. Works for us. And find some answers for our energy needs while you’re at it.

By way of Mr. Reynolds is this insightful observation by Dr. Pournelle:
The easy way to make ethanol is to import sugar from Brazil and use that. Of course we don't and won't do that.

The easy way to bring oil prices down is to drill offshore and on the North Slope. Of course we don't do that.

The easy way to bring electricity prices down (you can make fertilizer with electricity) is to build nuclear power plants, expensive but cheap compared to wars. Of course we won't do that.

Note the common thread, democrats blocking any energy policy that would help America, including Cape Wind.

US Supreme Court protects Civil Rights of American Citizens

The US Supreme Court has upheld the Indiana law requiring a valid picture ID when voting. This ruling protects the Civil Rights of Americans from having their vote nullified by voter fraud.

Other things that require a valid photo ID include: driving a motor vehicle legally on public roads, purchasing a cell phone, renting a video, and purchasing effective allergy medicine.

UN covering up its involvement in sex slave trade

From the BBC:

The UN has covered up claims that its troops in Democratic Republic of Congo gave arms to militias and smuggled gold and ivory, the BBC has learned. . . . These are not the only allegations to have been brought against peacekeepers in DR Congo.

In December 2006, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said Moroccan troops had been involved in widespread sexual abuse.

"There have been crimes such as rape, paedophilia and human trafficking," he said, shortly before leaving office.

Franken's Tax problems

democrat Al Franken, former SNL writer and performer, is running for the US Senate on the typical democrat platform of more taxes on top of higher taxes.

However, it seems he has trouble paying his taxes.

On Friday, Franken's campaign manager, Andy Barr, declined to say whether Franken had paid taxes on earnings in California between 2003 and 2007. He said Franken's accountant is working with California officials to sort things out.

The latest Republican charge that Franken's taxes there have gone unpaid comes in the wake of earlier disclosures that Franken failed to pay workers' compensation and disability premiums in New York and botched the dissolution of his California corporation. Since then, Franken has paid more than $25,000 in fines to New York and still owes more than $4,700 in corporate taxes and fines to California.

Note to democrats, instead of raising taxes on everyone, how about you get your rich members to pay their 'fair share' first.

: More details at Hot Air.
Al Franken’s corporation got decertified by California for failing to pay its taxes. Since Al Franken served as the COO and apparently the CEO of the corporation, he had the responsibility for keeping up with the taxes and filing requirements in California. Despite whether the information came out from Republican research — or as Lady Logician notes, an independent new-media researcher who formerly worked within the state GOP — it doesn’t change the fact that Franken is an apparent tax dodger.

Mean while, in Iraq...

Weapons recently manufactured in Iran are captured.

The U.S. military says it has found caches of newly made Iranian weapons in Iraq, leading senior officials to conclude Tehran is continuing to funnel armaments into Iraq despite its pledges to the contrary.

Officials in Washington and Baghdad said the purported Iranian mortars, rockets and explosives had date stamps indicating they were manufactured in the past two months.
Iran has long denied that its government knowingly funneled weapons into Iraq or trained Shiite militants there. It has derided the U.S. claims as propaganda. Several senior U.S. military officials said the weapons caches would undercut the Iranian denials and provide new evidence of continuing Iranian support for Shiite militants across Iraq.

"You can see the manufacturing dates right on the armaments themselves," one senior commander in Baghdad said. "These are very clearly weapons that were made in the last month or so."

Unemployment plummets after crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Unemployment rates are rising across the United States, except Oklahoma. That state is experiencing the most dramatic reduction in unemployment since 2007, an improvement many in Oklahoma attribute to the passage last year by the state legislature of a strong employment-focused immigration reform law.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday reported unemployment in Oklahoma had fallen to 3.1 percent in March, down from 4 percent in March last year, while unemployment nationwide was 5.1 percent, up from 4.4 percent in March last year.

It Is Alive!

Barak Obama failed to put a stake in the heart of Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday.
Despite massively outspending her in Pennsylvania ($11 million to $5 million in TV ads alone), Monica Lewinski's ex-boyfriend's wife kicked his narrow ass with a solid 10 point win.

With that solid win in a key general election state, money is rolling into her campaign. "The Clinton campaign claimed it raised $500,000 online in the first hour after polls closed Tuesday." It also adds weight to HRC's argument on why the democrat party overseers, the so-called "super delegates", should ditch the will of the democrat voters and select her for the party nomination instead of Obama, who was actually elected by the citizens aligned with the democrat party.

With any luck, the HRC and Barry will keep clawing at each other all the way to Denver.

XP SP3 due out April 29...

One article says its not that big a deal. I wonder though.

Tamara K nails it.

The snarky one writes:

Honey, this American is ready to elect an African-American woman, but the GOP won’t run her and she’s too smart for the job anyway.

For all those who say the current democrat front runner can't be elected because he's black, I have to call bullshit. As Tamara points out, Dr. Rice is considered electable and if the RNC could have gotten Colin Powell to run they would have wet themselves in joy. They saw him as highly electable.

Barry H. Obama isn't unelectable because he is black, he is unelectable because he is is a hard far left extremist liberal. The man is rated by liberal watchdogs groups as being to the left of both HRC and Ted Kennedy.

An alternative to liquid pork

Corn based ethanol has a few problems, including its expense and the fact that corn is what people should be eating, not cars.

A program at University of Tennessee
is looking at using common switchgrass to produce ethanol.

Tennessee could become the "Saudi Arabia of cellulose" with its farm-to-market plan to produce ethanol from switchgrass, beginning with a demonstration refinery being developed in partnership with the University of Tennessee.

Fueled by the best science from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and UT, and with funding from the state, the refinery is expected to produce ethanol for less than $1.50 per gallon within five years.

Missing in action: Obama's spine

One debate where the moderates didn't check to see if he wanted a pillow and Barry H. Obama folds like a cheap lawn chair and ditches the next debate.

A proposed debate in Raleigh between Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton has been called off, officials said Monday.

CBS had agreed to host a debate next Sunday at the RBC Center and televise the event nationally. Clinton agreed to the date, but Obama, who had earlier committed to an April 19 debate, said repeatedly he wasn't sure whether he could fit an April 27 debate into his campaign schedule.

The North Carolina Democratic Party said in a statement Monday that the logistics of staging a national event on short notice, if Obama were to agree to the debate this week, were too daunting to try to pull everything together. Democratic officials also said there were "growing concerns about what another debate would do to party unity."

The Confederate Yankee calls it with spot on accuracy:
That is a truckload of bovine excrement, of course.

The NC Democratic Party could have easily provided for a debate with the resources we have here in the state capitol, even on short notice, and plans were no doubt in place to do just that until Obama backed down from the challenge.

Leading Tarheel Democrats—including both Democratic gubernatorial candidates—are in the tank for Barack Obama, and they understand that another dismal performance by a faltering Obama could give the Clinton campaign the opening it needs to finish a bruising primary season strong and throw the nomination process even further into turmoil. They don't want to risk his double-digit lead and his overall viability when it isn't absolutely necessary.

Obama doesn't have the backbone to face tough questions and is absolutely terrified of Chris Wallace. The leaders of North Korea, Iran and Communist China must be absolutely gleeful over the prospect of having this lightweight in the Oval Office.

Obama's financial plan to ruin America

From Kudlow's NRO blog:

Look, here’s the deal: Obama bungled the tax question, big time. Period. End of sentence. End of story. To my liberal friends out there all I can say is: Get over it. Your guy has a very poor grasp of basic economic principles.
Obama’s real agenda is a liberal-left ideology that places income redistribution above economic growth. That’s his real message. And looking at the results of presidential elections over the past three decades, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry all lost with a similar message. Bill Clinton? He was a growth Democrat. So he won twice. But Obama is aligning himself with the Democratic losers. And that will make him a loser as well.

Fake FLDS tipster an Obama delegate?

The Jawa Report and Patterico have broke this story before the MSM. The questions is not when the MSM will cover this, but if they will.

Rozita Swinton, the woman arrested today for falsely tipping off the police that she was an abused child bride at the FLDS polygamy cult in Texas is a PLEDGED BARACK OBAMA STATE DELEGATE!!

It was her initial false report that started the investigation which has led to the removal of 400 children from their parents' custody.

Details in the Deseret News and the Houston Chronicle.

It appears that this Obama supporter had no problem playing the race card herself.
From the Houston Chronicle article:
Department of Public Safety officials declined to discuss the case as part of an ongoing investigation, but issued a statement Friday saying the Rangers accompanied Colorado Springs police to search Swinton's home for items related to previous false reports to authorities.

Officers found several items indicating a possible connection between Swinton and calls regarding FLDS compounds in Colorado City, Arizona, and the one near Eldorado.
Child Protection Project founder Linda Walker and the Phoenix-based group's executive director, Flora Jessop, said Friday they were stunned when they learned the woman's identity.

"In her little baby voice, she said, 'If you rescue me, and I get out of here, do you think the black people will hurt me?' " Walker said. "She had done her homework. She knew it was a racist cult. We know that these kids are very frightened of black people.

"The Texas Rangers told us she was obsessed with the FLDS. They confiscated tons of material on the FLDS (in the search of Swinton's home). She even gave real addresses and real names of FLDS people."

Not missing a chance to get a dig in...

Obama is obviously willing to take the low road and twist his opponents words into something they didn't say. That isn't the change people are looking for.

The Opiate of the Elites

Prof. Bartels states in the NY Times:

Small-town people of modest means and limited education are not fixated on cultural issues. Rather, it is affluent, college-educated people living in cities and suburbs who are most exercised by guns and religion. In contemporary American politics, social issues are the opiate of the elites.

As usual, the far left extremists (which includes most Obama supporters) have got it completely ass-backwards.

Fake "Gun Rights Group" Supporting Obama

The Confederate Yankee points out the extreme level of flat out lies Obama supporters will go to in order to bamboozle the American people.

ABC News reports that Barack Obama has collected the endorsement of a guns rights group, the American Hunters and Shooters Association.
Actually, it is Obama's record on firearms that is unfair to Americans, but don't expect Ray Schoenke to know much about gun rights, even if the Daily Kos diarist is the President of the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA).

Schoenke, a failed Democratic candidate for governor of Maryland, has donated thousands to Handgun Control, Inc, a virulent anti-gun organization that was the forerunner of Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence. He has donated tens of thousands more to anti-gun Democratic politicians including Ted Kennedy.

AHSA executive director Robert Ricker has testified as a paid witness against the gun industry and consults for several anti-gun groups, and John Rosenthal, President of the AHSA Foundation, is a former member of Sarah Brady's Handgun Control, Inc, and is leader of Stop Handgun Violence, a Massachusetts anti-gun group that has contributed to that state's intolerant anti-gun guns.

Just as Obama's record of claiming he is in favor of the Second Amendment even as he pushes for gun ban is dishonest, so is this endorsement from a trojan horse gun control organization masquerading as a group that respects American's rights to life and liberty.

Lies, misdirection and hate. That is pretty much all the far left has to offer.

Oh well, his photo stream, his right to delete comments he doesn't like.
The image in question, a picture of far left extremist democrat Barak Obama in full cult of personality Che mode.
I didn't bring that aspect up though, I just pointed out that he was clinging to his religion because he was bitter. After the person who posted it soapboxed about his running a campaign without the big money corruption the way "Republicans" and the Clintons did it, I pointed out that he made the 'bitter people clinging to guns and religion' comment at a fat cat fundraiser in San Francisco and was preaching to the choir in order to rack in the big bucks.

That is what probably annoyed him enough to delete my comments.
Oh, he just didn't delete my comments, he went as far as to block me, to keep me from making any more comments that didn't fit his far left liberal world view.
I guess it really is true that there is nothing more close minded and intolerant than a so-called "tolerant and open minded liberal."

He probably doesn't want to know about Michelle Malkin pointing out that Obama is taking money from the fat cat, big industry donors as well. It's so obvious that even the far left leaning NPR is reporting it.

Ace chimes in with this delicious tidbit,"[Obama] just took $125,000 from Jack Abramoff's old firm, too."

UPDATE: By way of Rob at SayAnything, Obama Takes $50,000 In Bundled Cash From Code Pink.

Code Pink, as you know, is a far left extremist group that protests against the United States Marine Corps and gives money to Islamofascist groups.

The co-founder of the radical anti-war group Code Pink has “bundled” more than $50,000 for Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, and pro-troops groups are demanding that he return the money.

Jodie Evans, a Code Pink leader, gathered at least $50,000 from friends and associates and donated it to Obama’s presidential campaign, according to information compiled by the nonpartisan watchdog group, Public Citizen.

Evans and her son, a student who lives at her Southern California address, each also gave the maximum individual allowable donation of $2,300 to Obama’s campaign.

The donations have raised questions about Obama’s association with the more radical elements of his base. Code Pink has harassed, vandalized and impeded military recruiters across the United States in a campaign it calls “counter-recruitment.” The group also gave $600,000 to the families of Iraqi terrorists in Fallujah, whom it called “insurgents” fighting for their homes.

Not what you expect from someone who is supposed "to loosen the stranglehold big business and other special interests have over our government."

What will a Hillary Rodham Clinton presidency look like?

Carl Bernstein asks the question and he gets it mostly right:

The answer by now seems obvious: It will look like her presidential campaign, which in turn looks increasingly like the first Clinton presidency.

Which is to say, high-minded ideals, lowered execution, half truths, outright lies (and imaginary flights), take-no prisoners politics, some very good policy ideas, a presidential spouse given to wallowing in anger and self-pity, and a succession of aides and surrogates pushed under the bus when things don’t go right. Which is to say, often.

The thing he gets wrong is that he expects "some very good policy ideas", which is pretty much outside the realm of possibility since Monica Lewinski's ex-boyfriend's wife is socialist.

Bill Clinton linked to Communist Chinese crackdowns in Tibet

According to the LA Times, "A firm that has donated to the president's charity is accused of collaborating with the government in its crackdown on Tibetan activists."

Yet Hamas is openly and unapologetically genocidal. Jimmy Carter hates through others maintaining deniability of his own monstrous impulses. His evil is worse than the banality Hannah Arendt described because he should know better. Paglia nails Hillary

Camille Paglia sums up Clintonism:

The compulsive war-room mentality of both Clintons is neurosis writ large. The White House should not be a banging, rocking washer perpetually stuck on spin cycle. Many Democrats, including myself, have come to doubt whether Hillary has any core values or even a stable sense of identity. With her outlandish fibbing and naive self-puffery, her erratic day-to-day changes of tone and message, her glassy, fixed smiles, and her leaden and embarrassingly unpresidential jokes about pop culture, she has started to seem like one of those manic, seductively vampiric patients in trashy old Hollywood hospital flicks like "The Snake Pit." In others words, it is more patriotic to be in favor of civil rights legislation than to oppose it...

Mr. Klein forgets, or is blissfully ignorant of the fact that the Civil Rights Act passed because a majority of Republicans voted for it, along with a minority of the democrats who controlled Congress at the time. Among the liberal democrats who voted against the Civil Rights Act were Senator Al Gore, Sr. and the former KKK Grand Kleagle, Senator Robert Bird.

I am, of course, referring to the Oscar winning actor, Charlton Heston. In addition to his efforts to support the Second Amendment, he was fighting for Civil Rights long before it was the "cool" thing for the Hollywood crowd to do.
Jay Severin knew this:

But just one thing is missing in the media's unceremonious death notice. Do you know what it is?

Somehow lost in translation of the "news" media's coverage of Charton Heston's passing is the fact that he marched with Martin Luther King for human and civil rights...in the 1950s.

In the 1950s.

Long before today's civil rights gods - like, say, the Kennedy's, the Gores, et. al. - even privately thought about it.

Jeff Soyer also knows his history:
Few will mention that he was very active in the civil rights movement of the ’60’s, appearing on stage with Dr. Martin Luther King in 1963 during the March on Washington, where King delivered his “I have a dream. . .” speech.

Even fewer will mention that he opposed McCarthy, was outspoken against racial segregation, and that his movie, Planet of the Apes was a metaphor about racial intolerance, etc.

I also remember that hilarious walk-on he had in Wayne’s World. . .

Pay attention to the details...

The Clintons released their tax returns. No mention if they are still counting used underwear as charitable deductions. It is interesting that all of their charitable contributions "went to a family foundation run by the Clintons that has given away only about half of the money they put into it, and most of that was last year, after Mrs. Clinton declared her candidacy," according to the NY Times.

I don't advise you try that trick at home kids.

When the Clintons talk about the "Wealthiest Americans" and how they need to pay "their fair share", they are looking squarely in the mirror. Their combined income of $109 million over the past eight years put the Clintons to be "in the top one-hundredth of 1 percent, or roughly 14,500, of all taxpayers."

The democrat dilemma

Karl Rove nails it.

"I think this is the big dilemma the Democrats face: Are they going to choose a nominee who essentially is chosen, validated, by a minor aristocracy, by essentially an undemocratic group? Because, look. Does anybody think that Patrick Deval [sic], governor of Massachusetts, and Senator Ted Kennedy are gonna respect the wishes of their home-state crowd and go for Hillary Clinton, who won their state? No."
There are twice as many Democrats defecting to McCain as there are Republicans defecting to Obama. In the Fox poll, Obama takes 74 percent of Democrats and loses 18 to McCain. And McCain keeps 80 percent of Republicans and loses 10 to Obama. And in every one of the polls, it's nearly twice as many Democrats defect to McCain as Republicans defect to Obama. And against Clinton, it's three times as many. Know why? Well, there are a lot of different reasons why. There are Democrats, particularly blue-collar Democrats, who defect to McCain because they see McCain as a patriotic figure and they see Obama as an elitist who's looking down his nose at 'em. Which he is. That comment where he said, you know, "After 9/11, I didn't wear a flag lapel pin because true patriotism consists of speaking out on the issues, not wearing a flag lapel pin"? Well, to a lot of ordinary people, putting that flag lapel pin on is true patriotism. It's a statement of their patriotic love of the country. And for him to sit there and dismiss it as he did—

NY Times Buries Haditha Exoneration

NRO points out that the liberal New York Times thinks a hint of bad news for the US Military is worthy of the front page headline, while the news that the charges have been dropped gets buried inside.

Military scandals are always front-page news—until they turn out to be less scandalous than thought. The New York Times gave huge play to the allegations of a massacre—"in cold blood," as Democrat John Murtha put it—by U.S. forces at Haditha. It was front-page stuff, with "World Ends"-sized headlines. But now, almost all of the men charged have had their charges dropped, and many of those who have followed the case wonder why charges were brought in the first place, given that the evidence was so weak that it didn't even make it to trial.

So where does the New York Times play the dropping of charges against U.S. marine Stephen Tatum? Halfway down the page in the last column of A8.

Here are some of the stories that the New York Times deemed more important than the fact that a marine accused of murder in Iraq is guilty of no wrongdoing at all:

The puppet was a better actor.

It's as if the Sean Penn puppet in "Team America" came to life as a propagandist.

Comparing Economies

John Lott looks at the current economy and that of the 90s.
An interesting study in actual numbers and how the MSM presents them.

Gas prices are going up. The economy is slowing. Talk of recession is seemingly everywhere. While the majority of people rate their personal finances positively, consumer confidence in the economy has plunged to a 16 year low, well below what it was during the last year of the Clinton administration when we were in a recession.

A Nexis search on news stories during the three-month period from July 2000 through September 2000 using the keywords “economy recession US” produces 1,388. By contrast, the same search over just the last month finds 3,166. Or, even more telling, take the three months from July through September last year, when the GDP was growing at a phenomenal 4.9 percent. The same type of Google search shows 2,475 news stories.

Over 78 percent more negative news stories discussed a recession when the economy under a Republican was soaring than occurred under a Democrat when the economy was shrinking.

A little perspective on the economy would be helpful. The average unemployment rate during President Clinton was 5.2 percent. The average under President George W. Bush is just slightly below 5.2. The current unemployment rate is 4.8 percent, almost an entire half a percentage point lower than these averages.

The average inflation rate under Clinton was 2.6 percent, under Bush it is 2.7 percent. Indeed, one has to go back to the Kennedy administration to find a lower average rate. True the inflation rate over the last year has gone up to 4 percent, but that is still lower than the average inflation rate under all the presidents from Nixon through Bush’s father.
Despite all that, this last week, Barack Obama claimed “As most experts know, our economy is in a recession.” Hillary Clinton made similar claims last fall. Yet, as any economist knows, a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth, and we haven’t even had one single quarter of negative growth reported. The economy slowed down significantly during the end of last year, but that was after a sizzling annual GDP growth rate of 4.9 percent in the third quarter.
The media’s focus on the negative side of everything surely helps explain people’s pessimism. In a recent interview Fox’s Neil Cavuto claimed this bias “is all part of the media’s plan to get a Democrat in the White House.”

Indeed, research has indicated that media bias is real. Kevin Hassett and I looked at 12,620 newspaper and wire service headlines from 1985 through 2004 for stories on the release of official government releasing numbers on the unemployment rate, number of people employed, gross domestic product (GDP), retail sales, and durable goods.

Even after accounting for how well the economy was doing (e.g., what the unemployment rate was and whether it was going up or down), there was still a big difference in how positive or negative the headlines were. Democratic presidents got about 15 percentage points more positive headlines than Republicans for the same economic news.

Last fall, I took a graduate level macro economics course. The book was written by a Clinton economic adviser. Using that book as guide, most of the Presidency of George W. Bush, the economy was smoking hot, with unemployment, inflation and GDP growth numbers that Bubba Clinton would had someone killed for.

Even now, the MSM and the democrats are preaching doom and gloom. The explosive growth in the Dow yesterday is something they would rather not think about. It disrupts their negative world view, as well as their chance to seize power in November.

Hillary's unethical history

Let us look at Monica Lewinski's ex-boyfriend's wife and her so-called experience.
It goes back to the Watergate days, were she was young lawyer working for the House Judiciary Committee.
By way of Hot Air is Dan Calabrese’s new column that details some key facts about that period in her life.
Namely that she was fired by the chief counsel to the House Judiciary Committee for unethical behavior and that she conspired to deny Richard Nixon counsel during the hearings.

The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the Watergate investigation, says Hillary’s history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther – and goes much deeper – than anyone realizes.

Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the committee. Hillary got a job working on the investigation at the behest of her former law professor, Burke Marshall, who was also Sen. Ted Kennedy’s chief counsel in the Chappaquiddick affair. When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman’s 17-year career.

“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

Chelsea takes after her mom

The rotten apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Mr. Reynolds points out how she is telling deliberate lies (or she is woefully ignorant, which isn't a good sign either) while pushing her mother's desperate, party wreaking, run for the Presidency.
The daughter of Monica Lewinski's boyfriend's wife is either displaying typical liberal ignorance or is deliberately lying to the American people (well, she is a Clinton) about President George W. Bush and the economic blackmail plan known as the Kyoto Protocols.

"I think the world will breathe a sigh of relief when this president is gone," Clinton said, criticizing Bush for pulling out of various accordings, including the Kyoto Protocol on global warming.

The actual truth of the matter is, of course, something else entirely.
On July 25, 1997, before the Kyoto Protocol was finalized (although it had been fully negotiated, and a penultimate draft was finished), the U.S. Senate unanimously passed by a 95–0 vote the Byrd-Hagel Resolution (S. Res. 98),[63][64] which stated the sense of the Senate was that the United States should not be a signatory to any protocol that did not include binding targets and timetables for developing as well as industrialized nations or "would result in serious harm to the economy of the United States". On November 12, 1998, Vice President Al Gore symbolically signed the protocol. Both Gore and Senator Joseph Lieberman indicated that the protocol would not be acted upon in the Senate until there was participation by the developing nations.[65] The Clinton Administration never submitted the protocol to the Senate for ratification.

So, the reality that Chelsea Clinton is either ignorant of or is deliberately lying about is that her own father deep sixed the Koyto Protocols by never sending to the Senate, where every single liberal democrat was on the record saying they would not vote for it.

democrat math...

Ed at Hot Air points at that democrats are not very good at math:

This election year has proven quite confusing to notions of rich, poor, entitlement, and exploiter. On one hand, we have Barack Obama drawing the line between rich and middle class at families who make $75,000 or more — a surprise to those who find themselves above that line, most of whom consider themselves solidly middle class. At the same time, we have New Jersey’s Democrat-run state government setting the poverty line for children’s health-insurance subsidies at … $295,000:

Obama has a "truth" problem...

Confederate Yankee has the details.

Obama's desire to ban all semi-automatic firearms (including those most commonly used for hunting and target shooting) and all handguns are positions well to the left of mainstream American views, as are many of the other political positions he took in the 1998 survey.

Running as a moderate and inclusive presidential candidate a decade later, Obama has tried to explain away his leftist positions on that survey, and an earlier 1996 survey, as being the work of campaign aides who misstated his positions.

The Politico bursts that explanation this morning, in a report that notes that Obama himself answered questions in an interview with the group that created the 1996 questionnaire, and even included the candidate's hand-written notes on an amended version of their questionnaire.

Some members of IVI-IPO, the group that authored the 1996 survey, are not happy with Obama's changing views.

The group had endorsed Obama in every race he'd run — including his failed long-shot 2000 primary challenge to U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) — until now.

The group's 37-member board of directors, meeting last year soon after Obama distanced himself from the first questionnaire, stalemated in its vote over an endorsement in the Democratic presidential primary. Forty percent supported Obama, 40 percent sided with Clinton and 20 percent voted for other candidates or not to endorse.

"One big issue was: Does he or does he not believe the stuff he told us in 1996?" said Aviva Patt, who has been involved with the IVI-IPO since 1990 and is now the group's treasurer. She volunteered for Obama's 2004 Senate campaign, but voted to endorse the since-aborted presidential campaign of Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio) and professed disappointment over Obama's retreat from ownership of the questionnaire.

Barack Obama has tried to package himself this time around as a uniting, moderating force in American politics, but his dozen-year long record from 1996 through his current Senate ranking as America's most liberal Senator shows him to be well to the left of mainstream positions not only among Americans in general, but even within the Democratic Party.

Instead of running on his liberal views, Barack Obama is trying to minimize the public's exposure to them without refuting his still-held radical beliefs, just as he's tried to run away from his relationship to a radical Marxism-inspired church with a bigoted, America-damning pastor without quitting the church or severing his relationship with Wright, just as he has no refuted his dinner-party friendship and board of directors relationship with a proud terrorist who lost his girlfriend in the group when she blew herself up trying to create bombs to target a dance for American soldiers.

Far from being a uniting force in American politics, Barack Obama has shown himself time and again to be a shifty radical attempting to lie his way into higher office.
