It's important to remember that the Republicans lost the majority in Congress in 2006 because they didn't cut federal spending while they cut taxes.
Most democrats are running on even more federal spending and jacking taxes through the roof.
That probably isn't a good plan for getting fiscally conservative independents to vote left.
A proven good way to stimulate the economy is to keep more money in the hands of the tax paying citizens.
