More on Moore

Found on Andrew Sullivan's Blog:

FINALLY SEEING THROUGH MOORE: I wondered how long it would take some sane lefties to realize what a fraud Michael Moore is. Here's a refreshing editorial from the San Francisco Chronicle. Money quote:

Moore recently touched down in California as part of his national book tour. He's traveling in style -- in a private jet provided by Time Warner, and in SUVs courtesy of his publisher, Warner Books. The company also threw in some bodyguards -- as we know from his movies, America is a pretty darn dangerous place.
For his part, Moore sees no contradiction between his private life and his public image, suggesting that the only reason he's feeding at the corporate trough is because it's there. "I would never pay for this,'' Moore told the Los Angeles Times, adding that the irony is not lost on him.
When you make your living bashing malicious corporate CEOs, it's best not to remind people that you're using giant media companies to carry your message.

News break: Moore is a capitalist millionaire, getting rich off left-wing suckers.

Lowell Ponte on the Newspeak Times

Whether Duranty wrote as an ideological Leftist or merely as a lapdog who got favored treatment in the Soviet Union by writing articles friendly to Stalin’s regime, the effect was to turn the New York Times into a megaphone for Marxist propaganda.

But rather than apologize for publishing pro-Stalinist propaganda and take steps to discredit and disown it, Sulzberger and Keller have made the surrealistic argument that to exorcise this bloody ghost haunting their house and tainting the honor of the Pulitzer Prize would itself be a Stalinistic act of historical revisionism. To correct a lie with the truth would itself be a lie. To right a wrong is to commit a wrong.

This sick Leftist mindset able to see up as down, white as black, peace as war and freedom as slavery is what George Orwell in 1984 called “DoubleThink.” Nowadays no knowledgeable person doubts that the New York Times is a very Orwellian newspaper.

The Guru Sez:

Could it be that the essence of liberalism is fear? It occurs to us that those who are considered "conservative" tend to be people who can cope with circumstances, while those who cannot cope tend to be of the "liberal" persuasion. The pious man properly fears God, but on the political scene the winner fears only the state. It may be that the loser looks to the state for protection against the winner, and only eventually discovers that he has identified the wrong enemy.

Gator Corporation sues one of their victims

US-based Gator Corp provides free software to consumers that enables them to store information such as passwords for logging onto sites. The catch however is that users of its software must agree to receive ads in return and when they visit certain Web sites a code is triggered that inundates them with pop-up ads. And, very often, the owners of these sites have not agreed to display these ads.

This has led to several companies such as the Washington Post and United Parcel Service (UPS) suing Gator for infringing on their sites. UPS, for instance, charged that it led to its competitors' ads appearing on its Web site.

However, now Gator has decided to turn the tables and has set the lawyers on Extended Stay America Inc to ensure that Extended cannot block its ads, a report on Bloomberg claims. Gator's argument is that consumers should be able to decide what they see on the Web and not Web site owners. It said in its suit that Extended Stay America has no right to prevent computer users from choosing to get its software and "viewing separate works, comprising advertising on that user's own computer screen, even when other works share the screen."

The screen on my computer is my private property. NO ONE has the right to tresspass on my property, impose their message on my computer screen, and interrupt my communications. Pop-up advertising deprives me of control of my property by stealing visual space on the screen of my computer and steals the irreplacable moments of my life in the time it take to kill the ads.

A true right does not under any circumstances constitute a claim upon the life, loberty or property of another person. Because pop-up advertising does violate my life, my liberty, and my property, I would have absolutely no problem when this form of vile behavior is banned.

The Tounge Tied Blog, that's not funny, it's really fornicating sad that the PC Facists have taken such a hold...

The compassion of the left...

From the Washington Times:

"Eight years after NPR's Nina Totenberg, on Inside Washington, wished death upon Sen. Jesse Helms ('If there is retributive justice, he'll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it'), on the same show over the weekend she seemingly desired to hasten the death of Army [Lt.] Gen. Jerry Boykin for having supposedly expressed the view that the war on terrorism 'is a Christian crusade against Muslims,' " the Media Research Center's Brent Baker reports at www.mediaresearch.org.
"Totenberg hatefully advocated: 'I hope he's not long for this world.'
"When the other panelists were taken aback by her wish ('You putting a hit out on this guy or what?' and, 'What is this, the Sopranos?'), she quickly backtracked: 'In his job, in his job, in his job, please, please, in his job.' "

The left is having a lot of fun over Rush Limbaugh getting hooked on pain killers as the result of unsuccessful back surgery.
While I'm not much of a Rush fan, I do find the double standard applied by the left interesting.
This, to them, is major news.
The fact that their hero, Aaron Sorkin, wrote that bit of leftist propaganda, "The American President", while on crack, doesn't seem to bother them.
Sorkin went on to create and write for that undeclared, multi-million dollar annual contribution to the DNC, "The West Wing".
Remember how he got picked up in Las Vegas with a suitcase of illegal drugs after a season wrap party?
Funny how that got a fraction of the press coverage that Rush's problems with pain killers is getting.

More hatred from the left...

Take the Red Pill.

What happened to putting the party first?

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Attorney General Bill Lockyer, often mentioned as a possible Democratic candidate for California governor in 2006, said Saturday he voted for Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger in this month's recall election.

"It was the first time I ever voted for a Republican in my life," Lockyer said during a speech at the Institute for Governmental Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. "What Arnold Schwarzenegger represented for me was hope, optimism and change, and I want that."

Asked why he didn't vote for his fellow Democrat, Lockyer said, "You know the people in your profession really well. You know who works hard and who doesn't. Cops know that about cops. Doctors know that about doctors. I know that about politicians."

Where your money goes

Good stuff from the folks at Little Green Footballs:

The United States gives out $13.3 billion tax dollars in direct Foreign Aid annually.

The United States is above and beyond the single most generous benefactor of the United Nations, donating $2.4 billion dollars of YOUR money, to primarily third-world dictators.
This amount is 25% of the United Nations budget.

In addition, the United States also gives another $1.4 billion tax dollars to United Nations programs and agencies.

The American taxpayers fund more for the United Nations than ALL of the other 177 member nations COMBINED.

What most Americans do not realize is that the vast majority of the recipients of US Foreign Aid routinely vote against the wishes of the United States in the United Nations, at an average rate of 74%.

In other words, of the $13.3 billion tax dollars invested in direct Foreign Aid only about 26% or $3.5 billion went to support people who endorsed American initiatives or causes.

A staggering $9.8 billion tax dollars went to causes and people who are in open and direct opposition to the United States' interests and objectives.

Listed below are the actual voting records of various Arabic/Islamic States which are recorded in both the US State Department and United Nations' records:

Kuwait votes against the United States 67% of the time.
Qatar votes against the United States 67% of the time.
Morocco votes against the United States 70% of the time.
United Arab Emirates votes against the U.S. 70% of the time.
Jordan votes against the United States 71% of the time.
Tunisia votes against the United States 71% of the time.
Saudi Arabia votes against the United States 73% of the time.
Yemen votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Algeria votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Oman votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Sudan votes against the United States 75% of the time.
Pakistan votes against the United States 75% of the time.
Libya votes against the United States 76% of the time.
Egypt votes against the United States 79% of the time.
Lebanon votes against the United States 80% of the time.
India votes against the United States 81% of the time.
Syria votes against the United States 84% of the time.
Mauritania votes against the United States 87% of the time.

US Foreign Aid to those who hate us:

Egypt, for example, after voting 79% of the time against the United States, still receives $2 billion annually in US Foreign Aid.

Jordan votes 71% against the United States and receives $192,814,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

Pakistan votes 75% against the United States receives $6,721,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

India votes 81% against the United States receives $143,699,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

democrat revisionism

A well written blog post about the Tony Snow - Sen. Rockafeller (democrat) interview.

The New Joan of Arc

Sabine Herold, to put it mildly, is not your typical Frog. Herold, the 22-year-old leader of Liberté, J’ecris Ton Nom (Freedom, I Write Your Name), has in the last few months emerged as the massively popular and highly photogenic leader of -- zut! -- a burgeoning pro-market, pro-American counterculture in France. Earning comparisons to Joan of Arc, Brigitte Bardot (!), and Margaret Thatcher in the panting British press, she represents something French politics hasn’t seen in years: a public figure eager to take on the country’s endlessly striking unions.

It is startling to hear any Parisienne, let alone a college student, drop references to F. A. Hayek in casual conversation, describe Communists as "disgusting," or lead pro-war demonstrations in front of the American Embassy.

-- Matt Welch writing in Reason Magazine

I Usually Call It The Department of Treason

The German Left Betrayed The West

They are "traitors to the Fatherland."

That was former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl's angry response to the recent, sensational revelations concerning West German citizens who spied during the Cold War for the Stasi, the dreaded East German secret police. Kohl was West Germany's conservative leader during the crucial 1980s, who, along with Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, helped win the Cold War for the West.

The exposure of these leftist turncoats has come about thanks to the United States, Kohl's anti-Communist ally. After the Berlin Wall fell, many Stasi archives were destroyed, but a complete copy of the files of its Foreign Department fell into American hands. Over the past three years, American officials have handed them back to Germany in the form of 381 CD-ROMs containing 381,000 file cards that collectively have been named 'Rosenholz' (Rosewood).

I'd also call them Enemies of Mankind, but that's just my opinion.

Your link to the Ebadi story reminds me of what the WaPo, NYT and the AP did after the fall in the Soviet Union. All of a sudden the most hard-line communists became, miraculously, "conservatives." Now, in Iran, the WaPo uses "conservative" to refer to the mullahs, with the implication that "conservatives" are against freedom. Used out of an American context and left undefined this leaves the reader unaware that American conservatives were/are in the vanguard in supporting freedoms for people in the Soviet Union and in Iran

Ed Asner wants to play Comrade Stalin

"Mr. Asner, I do have a question – unrelated to the film," I said. "In your long and distinguished acting career, going back to your earliest days in Chicago all the way up to present days working with Will Farrell on 'Elf', you have had the chance to do almost anything you could ever wish to do. But if you had the chance to play the biographical story of a historical figure you respected most over your lifetime, who would it be?"

Remembering the sad story he had told about the poor kids in Chicago, I half expected him to come out with a political name of some sort.

"I think Joe Stalin was a guy that was hugely misunderstood," said Asner. "And to this day, I don't think I have ever seen an adequate job done of telling the story of Joe Stalin, so I guess my answer would have to be Joe Stalin."

Suddenly the time had run out, and for the third time in less than 18 hours, Ed Asner had puzzled the room he was in, into a stunned and disbelieving silence.

I have a perfect understanding of Comrade Stalin and those who worship and wish to emulate him.

That is why I want every last one DEAD! EXTINCT! EXTERMINATED!

Of course, I think the Left in general is simply an affirmative hazard to Human Life in general.

The Dissident Frogman has something to say about Réduction du Temps de Travail (Work Time Reduction)

Indeed, today the French talk with great contentment about their RTT. They don't talk about their competences, they don't talk about their creativity, they don't talk about their soaring economy, they don't talk about their prosperity, they don't talk about the decency of their country, they don't talk about the straightness of their representative, they don't talk about the greatness of their civilization; they don't talk about their scientists, artists, thinkers or entrepreneurs, they don't talk about their breakthroughs, masterpieces, understanding or successes, they don't even talk about their own individual value and freedom as they sold both out to the illusory safety collectively provided by the master to his slaves.

They take a pill and gabble their satisfaction of being nobody and doing nothing.

The French Left can be proud indeed. Just like their offspring albeit much later, they succeeded in turning the people of this country into a mass of slaves, beggars and profiteers ruled by bandits.

Hmmm...my comment about Jesse Jackson yesterday seems to been a bit more accurate than I though:

"To add a note of paranoia, isn't there something sinister about the newly announced organization, Democrats for America's Future, which revealed itself just six days before the California election?" the Wall Street Journal's Holman W. Jenkins writes at www.OpinionJournal.com.

"Nameplate sponsors include Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich and partisan goon James Carville. The group, with $100,000 in seed money, described its mission as organizing "legal teams on a statewide and key-county basis in the pre-election, Election-Day and Post-election periods to deal with voting-related issues, disputes and challenges."

Joe Buff explains why the UN is useless

Post Election comments

I was watching the election coverage last night and noted that the various talking heads were very careful not mention any exit poll data while the polls were still open. Lucky for them, California, unlike Florida, is only in one time zone.

It was pretty obvious how things were going to turn out based on the comments by various leftist operatives.

Rep. Maxine Waters (rabid democrat - CA) calling for a recall initiative to start right away if Arnold won. That dog won't hunt, this recall only took off because Californians really hated Gray Davis. 20% of his own party voted for the recall! Such an action now would only make the democrats look like whiny, petty, poor losers. Not that we didn't know that already.

Jesse Jackson (well known democrat extortionist) started his “disenfranchisement” mantra early and repeated it often despite Chris Mathews' attempts to drag him back to reality. It was obvious that he was trying to set up a “legal” attack on the election itself. That might have been a good tactic, except that the margin that the recall passed by and the margin which Arnold won were sooooo large.

Arnold virtually owns the state.

The Pedophile Death Cult Expands Its Target List

The owner of "Maxime," the South Haifa restaurant is a Lebanese Christian. George Matar is not an Arab Muslim; he is a Maronite Catholic from Lebanon whose roots are Aramaic. Many of the workers who got killed or injured are Lebanese Christians, as well. Al-Jazeera and many Arab media outlets missed that point, possibly intentionally, since indicating the real ethnic and religious identities of this owner and some of the workers would open a new file on the jihadists both in Israel and in the Middle East. Why would the Islamist suicide bombers particularly target a Lebanese Christian restaurant in Israel, when they could have attacked an Arab-Muslim culinary establishment anywhere else in the city? Mainstream Jews in Haifa eat at all kinds of restaurants, especially on the Sabbath. So what's behind Hanadi's mission? Was she there to kill Jews or Christians -- or both?

The New Morality

An email to Andrew Sullivan

"Let's face it - intelligence is the new morality. For the left there are no long-term historical precidents to cite or follow. They are all rooted in a misogynic and racist western culture. There is no transcendent truth because that demeans the individual and takes away individual liberty. By what standard then do you judge an individual and determine their worthiness? Not by character ... not by integrity ... but by how bright they are. This intelligence of course is demonstrated by embracing the tenets of the left. Personal morality, sound legal judgement and basics such as keeping one's word do not have be followed as long as one is bright enough to to see the world from a left perspective. All other failings are excusable.
What a terrifying concept! History is littered with bright people who made horrific moral decisions. Intelligence is not conscience and an intelligence uninformed by a conscience (a real honest to goodness sense of the reality of necessary demarcation between good and evil) ultimately becomes a slave to the pale substitue of one's political ideology and the expediancy of its accompanying agenda. All it takes to understand this to see the moral bankrupty of the feminists in their differing reactions to Bill and Arnold. Expediency rooted in the new morality rules the day. Give me 'dumb' and principled any day."

Why wasn't Davis investigated too?

Wayne Dunn says that the best defense is a superior offense

Some say our "War on Terror" should consist mainly of bolstering security here at home, not military action abroad.

But "homeland security" is no more the answer to Islamic terrorism than smoke alarms is to arson.

Fighting back-- not dodging blows-- is the chief component of self-defense. Limiting self-protection to merely avoiding getting hit is a charter of liberty for any would-be aggressor--and the would-be defender's death decree.

To illustrate, imagine if out of 1000 attempts at terrorism on American soil, authorities manage to foil 999. A superb statistic, but what about the one act that slipped through? If a fireball boils one of our cities, would enemies watching events unfold on TV be deterred by the fact that their people fail 99.9% of the time? Or rather would they be roused by their one success?

The War on Terror--which should actually be a formally declared war on specific nations, firstly Iran, not on their beloved tactic, terrorism--will not be won by reshuffling agencies at the Homeland Security Department. It can only be won by completely unleashing the Defense Department.

Given free reign to use any weapons needed to do the job with least American casualties, our forces should be ordered to wipe out regimes that lend material sustenance or spiritual sanction to Islamic terrorists.

Why slay these governments and not just their hired guns? Answers former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "Terrorists are not suspended in mid-air. They train, arm and indoctrinate their killers from within safe havens on territory provided by terrorist states. Often these regimes provide the terrorists with intelligence, money and operational assistance, dispatching them to serve as deadly proxies...." [1]

Victory requires acting on the above truth. It requires steely resolve to put steel-on-target-- on any target in enemy territory our commanders wish, military or civilian, even religious.

Let the tyrant in Libya worry about guarding his airports. Let the thugs ruling Syria fret over the safety of their office buildings. Let fanatics in Iran be the one's sweating their "homeland security." Let the Saudi princes stress over protecting their country's treasures-- such as how to keep Mecca from getting leveled.

More really good stuff from Andrew Sullivan:

THE LEFT AND INTELLIGENCE: Fantastic quote from a "feminist" activist at the anti-Arnold rally yesterday. Film producer and Codepink activist Patricia Foulkrod explained why she was so fervently pro-Clinton and so outraged by Arnold:

"The difference is that Clinton was so brilliant... If Arnold was a brilliant pol and had this thing about inappropriate behavior, we'd figure a way of getting around it. I think it's to our detriment to go on too much about the groping. But it's our way in. This is really about the GOP trying to take California in 2004 and our trying to stop it."

Ah. The principles of liberalism today. I'm constantly amazed at how so many of the new class left believe that intelligence is the supreme human virtue. I guess this is because being smart has been their own ticket to power, wealth, etc. If I had a dollar for every liberal friend who couldn't vote for Bush because he's so "dumb", I'd be as rich as Terry McAuliffe. And during the Clark boomlet, I kept hearing, "But he's so smart." As if that were a sufficient argument for electing a president. And then when you ask the same liberals if they approve of intelligence testing or whether people sould get into college on the basis of test scores, they look horrified. Go figure.

"Feminism died in 1998 when Hillary allowed henchlings and Democrats to demonize Monica as an unbalanced stalker, and when Gloria Steinem defended Mr. Clinton against Kathleen Willey and Paula Jones by saying he had merely made clumsy passes, then accepted rejection, so there was no sexual harassment involved. As to his dallying with an emotionally immature 21-year-old, Ms. Steinem noted, 'Welcome sexual behavior is about as relevant to sexual harassment as borrowing a car is to stealing one.' Surely what's good for the Comeback Kid is good for the Terminator." -- Maureen Dowd

Bill Maher on Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh had to resign from his ESPN NFL broadcasting job for suggesting his fellow sportscasters overrated Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb because they wanted to see a black quarterback succeed.?.?.?.
But, this time, Rush Limbaugh isn't the big, fat idiot. He wasn't implying that we'd all be better off if society were segregated, as Trent Lott did, or that blacks don't possess the "necesseties" [sic] to be baseball managers, as Al Campanis did. He was simply suggesting that some sportscasters, recognizing a historic glass ceiling for African-American quarterbacks, may have been practicing a kind of "accolades affirmative action."
But, as we all know, in this country, when anybody makes anyone uncomfortable ever, they must lose their job. Sports Center is next.

From James Taranto's Best of the Web

You just have to laugh at the Angry Left. How can these people expect anyone to take them seriously when they publish books with titles like "The Big Lies of George W. Bush and the Big Lying Liars of George W. Bush Who Tell Them?"--and their hero is Bill Clinton? Reasonable people can disagree with Bush policies, of course, but constantly calling him a "liar" serves only to remind people of how honest he is compared with his predecessor.

That's not all, folks. Clinton's lies, the nascent Angry Left told us at the time, were excusable because they were "about sex." A state employee accuses him of dropping his trousers, a campaign volunteer charges him with groping her in the Oval Office, a nursing-home operator says he raped her in the 1970s--those are all just "personal peccadilloes." It's time to move on!

In fact, there was a Web site called MoveOn.org set up in 1998 to oppose impeachment, which has remained in operation and turned into a center of Angry Left activity. So what are the folks at MoveOn up to these days? For one thing, they're beating the BUSH LIED!!!! drum, using a witless adjunct site called Misleader.org. Then there's this: "We're asking you to help fund a television ad devoted to putting [Arnold] Schwarzenegger's problem with women into the public eye. We need to raise at least $500,000 to make this happen."

The Drudge Report reproduces a MoveOn.org news release announcing a press conference this morning in Los Angeles, featuring MoveOn co-founder Joan Blades, former candidate and "Green Acres" star Arianna Huffington and an unnamed "woman cited in the Los Angeles Times article" on Schwarzenegger's past boorishness.

So let's see if we have this straight. Bush is bad because he "lies." Schwarzenegger is bad because he (admittedly) treated women in an offensive way. But Clinton's behavior was no big deal because he lied about offensive treatment of women. Does MoveOn really mean to assert as its guiding principle that it's acceptable to molest and even assault women if and only if you lie about it?

Why our civilization works

Doubt, truth, simplicity. The foundations of modern civilization. The destroyer of faith. In fact that is one of the main reasons that the church and the kings had so much trouble with science. It worked and it brought doubt. In America we have done tolerably well with a government based on doubt. Corrections are made in due course by the will of the people which in the long run has proved more than adequate. What we have not done so well on (though not too bad given the various incompatibilities) is a faith based on doubt. Modern Protestantism is a good try at it. The many schisms are a sign that doubt is alive and well. The problem is though, that each of these sects has no doubt that it has the one true faith. It has taken us quite a while to get this far. We will go farther. Why? Because it pays.
